Recently found this channel and their comedic timing is pretty spot on.
Why is the ladder such a big thing??? E for mount or dismount. It's like people never mounted anything before in their lifes.
these guys are great
This reminds me of something voiced by Ross Scott

Sometimes you have to get off to the side, and when you press E, it just drops you, and if you press space, it propels you off the ladder.
Or at least i'm pretty sure that's it?
Never had a problem with ladders in any Source/GoldSource games? And honestly, if you're going to give Gordon a voice, give him one that doesn't sound so pathetic.
Ladders never worked fluently in any valve based game, this is hitting on that. Many people run into problems of not knowing that it ether propels you of or drops you straight down.
the way this is made really makes it seem like the beginning of a half life porn parody

Maybe you ought to give their other videos a shot:

The point of these videos are to make an inter-dimensional hero sound and act like a normal dude.
That Ravenholm reference was good.

I like this. Their videos are actually really spot on and I just spend 90 minutes this morning binging their channel.

Ah yes, clearly, a theoretical physics scientists should sound something like:

Freeman sound kinda like Rich Evans' Mr. Plinkett.

I've died an uncountable number of times to Source ladders. They are the most inconsistent thing I've ever run into. A third of the time they work as you expect them to. Another third they fling you off when you try to get off of them at the top and you fall to your death. The final third you just slip down when you try to get off and hopefully catch onto the ladder again.

That's the thing though, I like sexy Freeman because it's over-the-top; I have a hard time picturing Freeman sounding so young and nasally, after being such a badass throughout the series. It's all subjective, I suppose.

I mean, I had a few mishaps during the wind tunnel portion of blast pit where I fell, but it was pretty rare and I got the hang of it after a couple deaths. It just wasn't a continuing issue, and I never had issues in HL2. With video games there's usually problems that stand out in my memory and this isn't one of them, is all. The rest of the content on this channel is hilarious though, especially this:

They even acted out some of the animations pretty accurately.
Does anyone have that comic where gordon steps up to a ladder, little bars pop out of his suit's feet and attach to it, and then rockets propel him up the ladder?
the "what comes after 2" joke is really unoriginal but it caught me so off-guard that i laughed out loud
You wanna see a dangerous fucking ladder, you log onto dayZ or arma, that's some sketchy shit. But Half life ladders have worked perfectly for me from day 1.

Valve kinda fixed it in CSS and CSGO where you look up to climb but fuck trying to climb down
it's inconsistent
sometimes you grab onto the ladder and get put into place (the center of the ladder) and W and D move you either directly up or down
other times it doesn't keep you in place and if your aim is offcenter you can fuck off the ladder, (though you can also press W/S and A/D at the same time on these ladders to move twice as fast)

There are two types of ladders in source. The one that snaps you to the ladder, and one where it just kind of lets you float up and down. Off the top of my head, I'd guess Valve used the floaty ladders during segments where you would be in combat, so it would be easier to shoot while using them. And the snap ladders would be the safer ones to use to avoid needless deaths in slow parts.
Unfortunately source velocity still turns both ladders into a space shuttle launch so you're still fucked either way.
