Absolutely amazing job, as always. Worth every second.
I fucking love this guy, now I can't wait for his Quake review!!
Funny what John Carmack said about story in games in retrospect. How wrong he would be a few years later.
Either way, even playing Doom for the first time in 2010 I could easily see how refreshing the game was at the time, especially given the popularity of platform games and really is still the benchmark for how fun first person games can be but I do feel its vast success and legacy may of now sown the seeds of the decline of its genre and I do think now is the time for something to take over like First person shooters did with platform games.
Waiting for marphy black's obligatory late rating
No wonder it took so long for him to make this video, it's almost an hour long. [sp]That and having a kid, too.[/sp]
Shame he didn't give a better look into Doom 3. Seems like he's not a huge fan, which is fair but it really feels like he brushed it under the table even amid the fact that it's a technical masterpiece. Sure it didn't make the same leaps and bounds Doom did at the time, but before the shit Doom 3 pulled we were still in a relative stone age for 3d gaming
It's less that he didn't like Doom 3 and more that he wanted to focus on the originals. He did the same thing with Wolfenstein TNO.
I hope some day, he does a retroahoy of the grand theft auto series.

What would you be otherwise doing on a cold Sunday other than listening to this man's beautiful voice talking about one of the greatest FPS games in history?
50 minutes?!
You seem a tad unfamiliar with Stuarts videos, and let me tell you - you've been missing out.
Doom is forever going to be one of those games that'll always have a special place in my heart, because I find myself going back to it even today.
22 years after its creation and it's still a hot topic for modders and gaming enthusiasts everywhere
it's achieved true legend status with gaming
I really wanted him to talk about how Doom was ported to everything (IE: calculators, printers, fridges...)

pretty fucking rad
I kind of wanted him to talk a bit more about the modding scene, because he only really looked at mods from before 2000, and then Brutal Doom, skipping over 10 years of incredible mods that came in between, like Action Doom 2, very polished mappacks like TuTNT or the countless gameplay modifications that were made over time.
It really is kind of an oddity in all of gaming, since I think the only franchise that comes close to the amount of mods Doom has is the Half-Life series.
The way he talked about it towards the end of the video also somewhat made it sound like SergeantMark and Brutal Doom alone were responsible for "rekindling" interest in Doom.
While this might certainly be true for the broader gaming scene, and especially the gaming media, it certainly isn't true for the Doom community itself. In fact, a lot of the assets used in Brutal Doom were made by various modders all across the community, and without the large thriving community that supported the game for more than a decade and a half at the time, Brutal Doom would probably not have been made.
Other than that, great video.

Quake as well, though to be fair the bulk of them are pre-2006, unless you count the games people make using Quake's engines like darkplaces as well
Waiting for marphy black's obligatory late rating
well there's a late rating as of this post
but somehow it isn't marphy

Quake's modding scene has kind of slowed down compared to Doom's as far as I know, probably also because of people switching over to Half Life and the goldsource/source engine in general, but it did have a lot of big mods at its prime.
I forgot there was even a new doom game
There's an entire tumblr blog dedicated to machines running Doom
How long until Doom for Pitboy? :v:
I'd expect once the GECK for Fo4 is released someone will try and do it.
AFAIK Pipboy games are SWF files. So if someone could recreate doom that way then hah.
Love RetroAhoy. He's seriously one of my favorite Youtubers. I'd like to see him voice an episode of Did You Know Gaming, perhaps even on Doom.

That's just a replacement for the title screen of one game.
I mean he's TRYING to get it to work, but it seems unlikely.

DOOM is the StarWars of gaming (at least PC gaming)
Man, I am not that excited for the upcoming Doom.
I'll probably get it used on PS4 if the SnapMap is as good as I've been hearing.
