What ever happened to the BioShock movie? IGN sits down with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who dicusses his vision for the doomed BioShock project, talks R-rating, and explains where the movie is now. Produced By: Gore Verbinski Written By: John Logan Directed By: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Genre: Action Other Genres: Adventure, Thriller Studio: Universal Pictures Language: English
To bad there is not a clear answer if it will actually happen yes or no, still glad that the director is excited about making it  (If they had the money could)
Making this a film kind of defeats some of its themes in my opinion. [sp]A deconstruction of linear storytelling, "would you kindly?", etc[/sp]
After seeing Doom (Which was absolutely god awful), I really don't see how anyone could pull off a good movie adaptation for a videogame.
Good adaptations for things can exist, even if there's only about one of them. Like King Kong.
Oh. This director. Not really a fan of his directing style. It's all shaky and in your face so you can't comprehend anything.
Skipped a beat, thought it would read "Director: Uwe Boll"
Guy also made 28 weeks later
After seeing Doom (Which was absolutely god awful), I really don't see how anyone could pull off a good movie adaptation for a videogame.
The director (Andrzej Bartkowiak) always made 'explosions and shooting' movies while Doom could use some atmosphere like the 24 Days later. Most other game movies are made by Uwe Bol which doesn't require explaination And this director has more exeprience in setting up a perfect mood, the current director (Juan Carlos Fresnadillo) made 28 Days later and Intruders which are both perfect in terms of mood but also set up a horror'ish mood I think this guy is perfect for the job, other then that he said he wants to stick to the original game as much as possible and i guess thats not that hard to pull off. Of course, if you had someone like Gore Verbinski then you got a guarantee that it will be fucking awesome [editline]8th June 2012[/editline] Main problem is the R-rating, no one wants to pump this much money into this movie.
I don't like adaptations. You should tell a new story, one that fits the medium. Bioshock deconstructed linearity and the player's near blind compliance with objectives. That wouldn't transfere very well to a movie IMO.

Gore is a big fan of Bioshock but ofc its not directed by him anymore
Well at least the protagonist's characteristics won't be being a human tool.
Silent Hill was an OK movie IMO. Definitely the best "game movie" I've seen.
After seeing Doom (Which was absolutely god awful), I really don't see how anyone could pull off a good movie adaptation for a videogame.
Uh well for starters actually base your movie's main plot off the game. Doom was all about hell breaking loose. The movie changed it to science gone wrong.

You know, like the sequel. But not written by an idiot.
if you're going to do an adaption you should actually play the game from start to finish and make sure you know the plot precisely
Making this a film kind of defeats some of its themes in my opinion. [sp]A deconstruction of linear storytelling, "would you kindly?", etc[/sp]
Did they say it'd be a direct adaption of the game? Because if not it could really be about anything to do with Bioshock. I think the Rapture civil war from the prospective of Andrew Ryan would actualy make a really cool movie.
They don't really have to stick to the main plot. If you go around Rapture you find those Audio diary's which reveal a lot of stuff about the history of Rapture.
After seeing Doom (Which was absolutely god awful), I really don't see how anyone could pull off a good movie adaptation for a videogame.
It was better then the Super Mario Bros movie in my opinion.
You cant really make a movie from a game with a linier storyline unless you make the whole thing first person.
