DayZ seems cool but too hard, also its becoming the Minecraft of YT suddenly
That sigh :v:
DayZ was fun it gets really boring really quickly
DayZ is great, don't get me wrong, but I fucking hate people who take out beginner players who clearly have no weapons and shit

Driftor's a real cool commentator, you should all check out his other videos. On the topic of the video, does that really happen alot? I played DayZ for like 2 hours, ran past 5 people who didn't do anything.
Alright fixed, thanks.
dayz is a piece of shit. it's a brilliant concept (that is completely unoriginal. every 12 year old in the world has thought of it as a "cool" idea for a game) that does not translate into a working piece of design at all. the only good thing that has come of it is that BI now have a shit tonne more money to make arma with
dayz was fun. it was a fun concept. it was underpolished, and then it got popular.
dayz was fun. it was a fun concept. it was underpolished, and then it got popular.
Just like Minecraft.
dayz is a piece of shit. it's a brilliant concept (that is completely unoriginal. every 12 year old in the world has thought of it as a "cool" idea for a game) that does not translate into a working piece of design at all. the only good thing that has come of it is that BI now have a shit tonne more money to make arma with
Ya but these guys are the first to ever fucking finally do that 12 year old idea, so many people wanted this type of game for the longest time. So many people wanted this type of game and rocket is showing that it can be done. The only issue with it is it is an alpha mod, its on arma 2 which isnt exactly the most friendly game control wise and its very buggy, and that its learning curve is insane, and playing alone is just suicide. If this is ever made with triple A quality it would be an instant hit, shit with smooth controls and optimization, something built from the ground up specifically for DayZ.
The best thing about DayZ is that it totally highlighted a MASSIVE gap in the market. There's never been a zombie game like this, what I'm hoping for is a good developer to take the concept and take it to new heights. Mainly to give it a semi-optimised engine, 'cause the Arma 2 one is downright horrendously optimised.
DayZ is also a mod currently in Alpha
oh great. who will remember it in like 2 years when they finally release a finished version? (hint: they won't. it'll never happen) [editline]15th July 2012[/editline]
If this is ever made with triple A quality it would be an instant hit, shit with smooth controls and not buggy, and jumping.
but it never will, because no publisher is going to put money into a game where you walk around for 2 hours aimlessly and then get shot in the head by someone from 600m away. it's not mainstream and it doesn't sell so what you have to settle for is a really badly made piece of crap. if you've got 10 mates who want to dedicate hours of their lives to finding a map and a pistol for you to play with then fine go and have fun but this game can't sell to the masses [editline]15th July 2012[/editline]
The best thing about DayZ is that it totally highlighted a MASSIVE gap in the market.
there is no gap in the market because the market doesn't want a game like this. that's why it has never been made
Three weeks later and I'm still getting kicked from games and am incapable of playing. Yay.
oh great. who will remember it in like 2 years when they finally release a finished version? You know, for someone who has 18k posts, you sure do spew out a lot of bullshit.
there is no gap in the market because the market doesn't want a game like this. that's why it has never been made
Well considering that a fuckload of people are playing DayZ and a shitload of people bought Arma 2 just for it, they obviously do want a game like this.
what is a minecraft
a piece of unfinished shit made out of a bunch of stolen mods that doesn't sell on the mainstream market also known as a dayz [editline]15th July 2012[/editline]
Well considering that a fuckload of people are playing DayZ and a shitload of people bought Arma 2 just for it, they obviously do want a game like this.
a fuckload =/= mainstream market applicable for aaa budget. sorry [editline]15th July 2012[/editline]
Yeah, that's why they're going to release a standalone version
when? in 2 years when they work out how to animate zombies and create some sense of pathfinding? yeh right (User was banned for this post ("Threadshitting" - Craptasket))
There are over half a million DayZ players currently.
it's a playerbase that will be gone in a matter of months, if not sooner
There is a market, although admittedly not one that directly compares to something like CoDs market, but it's still an extremely significant one. If a company were to make an AAA DayZ game it would sell like hotcakes.
you're really not getting this. it'd sell to the sort of people who want to play DayZ anyway (but the game would have to be hugely refined, have more of a goal and be much much much more stable (and they'll never get the funding to do that)); it'd never sell to the mainstream. if it was marketed incredibly well (ie. lies about its gameplay) it could sell but, to reiterate, your average person does not want to walk around fields for 2 hours before they even get a map. it's not gonna happen [editline]15th July 2012[/editline]
do you even have any idea what you're talking about
great rebuttal mate you sure showed me. come back later and try again?
Also, why the fuck does it have to appeal to the 'mainstream'? There are a shitload of other game series's that sold extremely well and are not in the least bit mainstream. Something off the top of my head is STALKER.
the "mainstream" matters because what you're asking for in a game and on the huge scale of dayz requires a fucking loaaaaaaad of money or an incredible adept team (neither of which dayz has). you're basically asserting that, for the game to work properly and to sell enough, it'd have to be a AAA title. but that's never going to happen with its current gameplay because no one would want to fund it but let's look at how you think the gameplay could change:
A company doesn't have to stick to the current DayZ formula. They could add a shitload of other things to make "2 hour walking across fields" something that is actually entertaining, or even replace 'fields' with an entirely urban setting. There could be a million new features that DayZ currently doesn't have, because the game would be theoretically made by a large team of experienced people, who are presumably close to their community - meaning they could add various things by popular demand on the fly.
oh. so you think dayz would sell really well and be a proper game... if it wasn't dayz? the only way it could be put on the market and not have people buy it and be like "wtf this game doesn't even fucking work" is for it to either be: a. funded with millions (never gonna happen) or b. dumb it down so much it can be made by a small team, work in a stable and accessible way, and sell and then all the dayz players would cry because it was dumbed down to a playable standard
the "mainstream" matters because what you're asking for in a game and on the huge scale of dayz requires a fucking loaaaaaaad of money or an incredible adept team (neither of which dayz has).
This just in, Bohemia Interactive isn't an Incredible Adept team, newbies to the industry.
They could easily get Bohemia to fund and publish them, before ARMA went to 50-75% immediately during the summer sales on steam but now it's only 20 JUST for DayZ, obviously Bohemia realizes how much money is in DayZ, you make it sound like the only publishers are Activision and EA
"No one would fund it." except the massive amount of people that play it daily, BI funds it themselves because BI members are working on the mod, people keep buying Arma2 because of DayZ, netting BI a fuckton more cash

You guys are forgetting that the people making DayZ are BI employees
