I feel like this is a pretty narrow minded view of the internet from someone who probably doesn't understand what's going on if I had to be honest. It sounds like when your dad installs 5 different toolbars on Explorer and he gets mad because he has no idea what any of them do. You can find good content and you can find what your looking for if you have an inkling of what you're doing. It's easy to weed the shit out. Complaining that you're overwhelmed by too many search results or results without substance just seems a little silly considering that you can just as easily find surefire ways to get what you're looking for.
2 guys yelling about nothing.

I agree, but at the same time, the youtube recommendation page is more cancer than ever. I watch one subject on one video and now my homepage thinks i want to watch 12 more. At least use my full viewing history for recommendations.
"I wanted to learn how to get a streaming computer; and so I found a video, the guy was like, 'first off, what is a video stream', and I was like 'Dude, what is this' "
I dont know man might be good to know what a stream is before you start one seeing as you don't know how to "get a streaming computer"
he's obviously blowing it out of proportion but he's got a point, especially with youtube, there's so much fucking garbage there now that it's very difficult to find anything worthwhile
Yeah wouldn't the internet be better if there were nothing on it
AKA "i don't know how to use google properly so the internet must be shit"

2038: Youtube has restricted upload access to the site explicitly for minecraft youtubers.
Let's-plays of the hot property become the new standard in crypto-currency as the game worlds are generated by the block chain, and destroying blocks of varying quality requires time based on the power of your computer. The more you physically mine per minute, the more intrinsic value the video is given, but watching others' videos allows you to siphon a small percentage of that value. This devalues the videos naturally over time to avoid the creep of inflation, encouraging production of new content and immediately selling it to a private collector, who can de-list the video to watch privately and extract more value from it with each pass than sharing it over public viewings, earning his money back with ease, though over a longer period of time than directly mining and securing a buyer.
It seems to be happening to specific videos only, too.
My recommendation page used to be filled with diverse music artists from like 4 different languages which I was happy about but then I watched a single "sho u de wey" video meme and like 3/4 of it is now filled with ugandan knuckles. It absolutely sucks and the worst thing about it is that I cant revert it now. It's always there unless I individually remove every single one of these videos by clicking the "Not interested." option.
I guess it's more of a specific problem with Youtube though, one of many, rather than the internet as whole.
I haven't had a diverse homepage since 2015. In 2016, i made the "mistake" of wiping my google history. before that, it took a lot of shit into account and i always had an interesting front-page to dive into while preparing dinner or cleaning. The first few weeks after cleaning, it would latch on to one or two videos i'd watched and recommend what is essentially entire channels of the same type of content in various checkered patterns. It was honest to god annoying the shit out of me.
2 years later and it still does mostly that. It's like it disregards the actual subjects in favor of pushing the personality of the creator. But even then, only checks a handful of videos back. I've built up a pretty good history over 2 years. If the algorithm wasn't broken as fuck, it could look back and take a lot of it into account so i don't have to choose between burning my food or being annoyed as shit. It can't be that hard, they used to have it working like that.
I know this is small shit, but it's slowly been growing in my awareness and i've just been mildly peeved over it for a long goddamn time now.
Like i fucking click on one TGWTG video, let it run and before i know it, it's playing a video brainfart by some basement trumpetist constantly snickering and restarting his smug run-on sentences, trying to feed me a narrative about Perturbed Pedro (and other racist fucking names), Spoony and Lindsay Ellis. I want edutainment, not smug, antisocial pepe's making other peoples work, lives and sexualities their business as if they're some kind of moral authority. This kid couldn't even- couldn't even start and stop his own- his own sentences without doubling- doubling back to make sure that he- that he got the words out smug enough. Who speaks like that? cunts!
Fuck me, this rant helped! I feel like when you drop the first fermented turd after 3 days of hard drinking.

Facebook also has the same problem, it's generally a modern social media issue and not a "internet as a whole" issue.
But if you only use the internet for modern social media, of course it's gonna seem like a rampant issue

To be fair my biggest annoyance is people who massively over-explain stuff, or add too many details. They just massively enhance the length by adding absolutely nothing
its very frustrating to find a video that is a 3 minute intro and then 5 minutes of explaining their channel and what they're doing, with about 2 minutes explaining what happened in their last video, 10 minutes of explaining something everyone already knows or should belong in another video, and in between all of that about 4 minutes of totally worthless jokes, Then they throw in a 2 minute advertisement followed by a joke, and then they get to the point but it's something that takes them like 2 seconds to say and they don't go into detail at all, even though that was the entire reason the video was even created.
and then they tell you to like comment subscribe visit my patreon you can get early videos for 15 a month visit my twitter also I have a twitch account here's an amazon affiliate link by the way if you join the facebook community and also why did the chicken cross the roaAAAAAAAAAAAAA
[editline]31st January 2018[/editline]
There are so many videos full of nothing of value that its maddening. Get to the point and stop going on these massive tangents over your channel. I want a simple tutorial on something that takes at worst 5 minutes to explain, but I end up finding a 15 minute video.
you can tell its shitposting because the dude is screaming to present his point. BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T YELL THERE IS NO WAY PEOPLE WILL GET YOUR POINT.
BUT YEAH HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO TUMBLR? EVERY TIME I LOOK FOR DUMB SHIT I DONT LIKE I FIND DUMB SHIT I DONT LIKE. BOO THE INTERNET SUCKS MAN BAN EVERYONE FROM THE INTERNET. WAIT FOR IT INTERNET I'LL SHOW YOU HOW ITS DONE.

isn't this made out to be a bigger problem than it is, because youtube is such a big part of it? it has no competitors and is the central hub for internet videos, and it's a site that combines the worst of both worlds with an overwhelming amount of shitty content + horrible search functions to sift through that content
So he's literally whining that the most intricate and diverse medium of communication humans have ever invented that serves literally billions of people isn't catered to his specific set of skills and knowledge
Guy needs to take a step back

He was complaining about trying to find something specific, but would only get things that everyone already know. Looking for something specific then just getting the most general advice possible.
The bigger problem is google's confirmation bias-ing. Because part of the algorithm is build to show you what you like and have searched before, your future searches that attempt to be objective have been tainted by your prior interests.
Sure, but if you've already went the effort to create an ostensibly complicated algorithym system to sort content and recommend videos to users would it really be that big a deal to also include a function to simply turn it off or at least limit its aggressive tendency to recommend completely shitty non-content videos or straight up meme compilations?
I thought I just had a bad run of luck with the system but it appears others had the exact same thing happen to them as well. I cant remember the last time Ive genuinely discovered a new content creator or a new channel or even just simply a new/old song I might enjoy using the recommended videos bar. Which is kind of shitty because if memory serves me well, it was much better 3 or 4 years ago. Clearly something has changed so someone must be actively tampering with it.
Youtube is weird as hell and a complete anomaly as far as corporations go so I guess I've gotta be thankful that something like it even exists. But still, pet peeves and all that.
Doesn't clicking "not interested" change your recommendations? I swear some videos stopped appearing after I clicked on a bunch of shitty ones, but then similar content that I actually wanted to see was gone, too (this might've just been me switching accounts so maybe it's BS, lol)
Plus, there's the recommendations for shit that maybe I would've liked to see elsewhere but make no sense in the page I'm in, like, how the fuck does Top Gear lead to that reggae song I listened to last month? Why do so many repeat results appear everywhere in the first place?
Even Google doesn't let you fully customize results, which isn't that bad for specific things, but it's a pain for quick searches. And can you even customize the New Tab thumbnails on Chrome without an extension? Taking control away from the user is the worst

If you remove the video that started it all from your watch history it stops the recommendations.
Every time I'm tempted to watch a video that know will cause this I have to watch it in an incognito window

It'd be boring as fuck if he slowly and carefully explained it calmly
he also isn't serious either

it's moreso the fact that companies game the system to get their bullshit low quality results to the top of the list. IMO that should be illegal
This applies more to Videogames and Youtube, than on the Internet in general.
There's so much shovel wear on Steam and shit videos on Youtube that real shitheads like DaddyOFive can stay undetected for years because we're busy trying to make fun of prank channels.

Theres just too much information period, we've built our societies and ourselves into a corner because we didn't think things through like normal.
I love movie reviews that end up just being most of the movie footage and the voice over just summarizing the plot

ironic shitposting is also shitposting.
ironic shitposting is also shitposting.
Every podcast that involves people just casually talking about serious topics all the time put me to sleep, I have no idea how people can find that entertaining
It's good for a 15 minute video but for something meant to be long-form, it becomes frustrating and boring. It doesn't have to be 'angry yelling' though something like Sleepycabin is great.
Hours of just shit posting and yelling is still way better than listening to something that sounds like an instructional video.
There's some good intrinsic points but it's presented like garbage and the arguments themselves are pretty poor.
The internet where anything is a possibility is wasted on memes
ironic shitposting is also shitposting.
I mean, just because you don't find this kind of comedy funny, that doesn't make it shitposting either.
Okay so I wanna talk about this because he's right, he's just missing the point.
There isn't too much content, it's the content aggregators. Google (as of late) is like that a kid in sex ed class. Smart/mature enough to follow along, just so much as you dont directly say the word the penis. What I mean is, if you use a buzzword you're going to get awful results. I wish I could remember what it was but I was trying to google a scientific term that was also a buzzword (in the same sense that 'streaming pc' is a buzzword) and couldn't find anything but trash articles and debates, but as soon as I changed the search terms to a different way to describe that same concept, I got its wikipedia article. The problem is that google puts more search weight on this kind of garbage because it uses AI to track what's "good" based on what's engaged with more.
What sucks about this is that it doesn't feel like the internet is broken or dying, it feels like google is telling us whatever we wanna hear. A really good way to prove this is that searching 'how to build a streaming pc' results in generic stuff like dude describes but "how to build a streaming pc reddit" goes straight to some threads about how to do so, including full PCPartpicker setups. The question has been answered google just doesn't care, or rather it's AI didn't think that's what you actually wanted.
edit:
Actually on second thought, I wanna clarify because this guy picked a bad example and his search actually yields some ok results (just not as helpful as the reddit threads). This isn't something I can just pull examples out of thin air for but there are totally things where you google it and the results are all these wannabe e-how sites and they all say the same generic obvious-from-before-you-googled-it things. I dont really know how to describe it but it just seems like as of 2016/17 google started being that friend you call for advice and they go, "Man that sucks you should call someone for advice!"
