This should be common sense type stuff, how in the fuck do normal people think investing in coal at this time is anything but a terrible idea?
Tradition, I suspect. There family has been in the industry for years and don't want to change.
I live in an area that's largely coal mines. People seem pretty invested in coal still.
It's just sad how there is still so much effort to keep coal mining jobs when coal is an inferior product in so many different ways.
Not renewable, worse for the environment, horrible medical conditions for the miners themselves.
I feel for the miners who lost their jobs, and fear they have no future.
In the end the big picture makes these miners look selfish which doesn't grab sympathy, old jobs become obsolete all the time.
Just look at the fast food industry with automated cashiers. It's simply time to learn and adapt.
As the video states Trump, nor really anything is going to protect coals future.

"My father and my father's father and his father all worked and died in the coalmine, and by God I shall too!"
They're right about solar being contagious. We got it now my neighbors want it and are in the process of getting them

I'm not a fan of coal mines, but I think it's less tradition and more that a lot of coal mining towns are built around coal mining, so when that goes away, there isn't really much else for them to do there.

Essentially this. They're going to either have to slowly corrode economically or adapt overtime to new industries could be equal to or greater than their current economy. I'd attempt to move towards the latter via offering retraining into something that can earn similar income and can be expanded as coal corrodes.
