Absolutely one of the best voices in mainstream music. She's on another level entirely. Her voice is simply perfect. I'd love to see the likes of Miley Cyrus, Madonna, Katy Perry or Britney Spears (laughs) attempt this. [sp]incoming disagrees from hipsters and anti-popular-artist circlejerk[/sp]
She has a much better voice than her pop songs let her showcase, no question about it. Can't quite hold up to Nat King Cole or Natalie Cole imo, but she does have a good voice.
Is this buzzfeed/upworthy now? "You won't believe what Jennifer Lawrence has to say about gay rights." "This inspiring video of an autistic 2 year old singing will make you think."
I can not disagree more, she easily stands up there with the best talents in history. Even Tony Bennett himself agrees. I am confident she will be remembered as one of the greatest vocalists of the early 2000-2100 period, along with others such as Amy Winehouse. She is a living legend. Her voice is much better than 'good'. Of course people will try and downplay just how incredible her voice is just because saying something positive about her is considered shameful these days. I'm afraid people wont realize her talent until she dies, like many other artists. (again I have to bring up Amy Winehouse)
Lady Gaga has some chops. She's doing an album with Tony Bennett.
I can't wait to buy it this September. I think I'll buy a copy for my sister, who thinks Gaga is a joke on the level of Rebecca Black. Reaction should be priceless. Her voice is so versatile, it can sound so different, one second she's raw and screaming like an experienced metal vocalist, then soft and sultry jazz, or soulful with an R&B twang. I don't know how she can sing any genre and not sound like an idiot. She's like that person who can wear any color shirt or haircut and pull it off. Here's all her jazz/swing/bigband covers/songs I know of.
Her voice is so versatile, it can sound so different. Love it.
I think that the mark of a great artist is versatility. Gaga can do a lot of styles very well. That's why I will always appreciate artists like Weird Al or Devin Townsend more than most others, even if they are considered "weird"; their skill spans multiple genres, and I love that.
I wonder if it's from her education in theater or if she just sang along with all sorts of music when she was young to learn all the nuances of various styles?

Well suck me sideways, I'd always brushed off Lady Gaga as just another lousy pop-culture schmuck, but this thread fucking proved me wrong...
