Holy shit... That looks like it just came out the factory. I'd love to see all the workings inside that because I have no idea how something like that would even work...
Uh I want one so badly now, but the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Curta-Mechanical-Calculator-557938-/280817238470?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41620301c6
I thought it was brand new when I saw it. Pretty cool.

You won't use this in your daily life obviously :v: But it must be so awesome to have one, kinda reminds me of The Davinchi Code device
Awesome, looks so modern for something designed during WW2
It would be cool if they started making these again as a novelty item but it is probably far too complicated inside to do cheaply.
I'm a 100% sure I've seen another mechanical calculator like that, but a lot cheaper
i saw one of these on pawn stars. shits cool. i heard the inventor was a jew, and the germans liked it so much, they spared his life.
i saw one of these on pawn stars. shits cool. i heard the inventor was a jew, and the germans liked it so much, they spared his life.
Yeah, I heard that from the video, too
The whole video I was going "Open it open it open it open it open it open it open!" I'd love for someone to come along and explain me how that thing works.

I was expecting some clockwork thing that looked like it was from the 1890s, but this is awesome! I want one now.

Instantly make your mathematics teacher love you.
I remember one of my uncles got a mechanical calculator like this for a family Christmas. I dont think it was a curta though.
Here's some of the patents. I wonder what my math teacher and my classmates would say when I go in an exam with that thing. The rattling and clicking would be quite annoying... This is an amazing piece of engineering.

Looks cool, but would be impossible to use in day by day situations
Looks cool, but would be impossible to use in day by day situations
Not impossible, just impractical. I'd love to own one, that's for sure.
That thing has more "numbers" than most of my electronic calculators. I'm certain not even the scientific ones can go up to billions without shortening the number. Also, I love the sound it makes.
Wow I never realized how easy I had it growing up with electronic calculators
Wow I never realized how easy I had it growing up with electronic calculators
You should try your hand at using a slide rule, that shit is crazy.
