My god, I want to get this, then make my friends use it then watch their reactions. That would be the best shit ever. THIS NEEDS TO COME OUT SOONER. FUCK. [editline]11th May 2013[/editline] I wonder what the jumpscare at the beginning of Cry of Fear would be like.
That's not Samuel L. Jackson. Still, funny reaction.
So, because he's black and old, he's Samuel L. Jackson? Not really sure what you're trying to joke about. I like this one better anyway.
Fuck me that's some powerful shit right there, I really need to try this and can't wait for it to come out commercially.
I wanna play the LSD simulator with this.
-snip-
I really want to try this
I really wish I could afford the Oculus when it comes out.
I wonder what the jumpscare at the beginning of Cry of Fear would be like.
I'll tell you this: manhacks, headcrabs and fast zombies leaping at your virtual face are terrifying enough with the Rift. Speaking from experience.

I wonder how someone with vertigo would fair with this, my father has it and I could only imagine it would be tormentious. And just thought this, imagine playing a game where you're an astronaut in an EVA and you're situated in some human sized gyroscope that allows you move around and stuff, that would be amazing.
THERE ALREADY IS
Oh my, you just made my fucking day, I'm buying this wondrous device as soon as soon as finances permit.
Oh my, you just made my fucking day, I'm buying this wondrous device as soon as soon as finances permit.
Wait for the consumer version.
Wait for the consumer version.
Yeah I was going to, I know they're going to increase the resolution and some other things, I'm also figuring they'll iron out all the bugs/improve it more.
Damn, I never knew Will Smith got an Oculus.
He just absolutely refused to move his head in any direction.
My boss bought me an Oculus as a bonus - I'm so pumped. Granted, I think mine will ship in August :(
I wanna try the occulus rift sometime to see what it's like.
Thats not Samuel L. Jackson, ITS EDDIE MURPHY.
I think what this tells us about human sensory input is almost more interesting than the technology itself.
It's Jackie Chan!
I love that the roller coaster demo is starting to go viral with just how good it makes nice reactions, kind of like how Amnesia went viral for the same reason.
can't wait to play games like condemned with this and the pc wiimote razor.
Looks like fun for a while, but honestly it's going to be too expensive for me just for a gimmick that will probably not be viable in most games I play. Maybe once the technology on this starts to advance and it becomes cheaper will I ever actually buy one of these.
add a webcam in front of the oculous rift and distort it.
add a webcam in front of the oculous rift.
Or just use your own eyes... dont need the rift to see normal things in 3d

The Rift is anything but a gimmick, I've yet to see any Rift owner claim otherwise. The VR perspective adds something unique to games, it complements something that's already there without making significant sacrifices. It doesn't remove controls, you can use mouse & keyboard, a controller, or anything else with it. I'd be so bold to say that you haven't properly played Half-Life 2 until you've played it with a Rift. Obviously not every type of game great in VR, but the ones that do can benefit so much from it. The technology finally advanced to a stage where VR IS starting to get cheap. $300 for a pair of VR goggles this good and this light was unthinkable just a few years ago. It rides the wave of mobile technology. Every improvement of smartphone and tablets hardware finds its way to the Rift. Right now the Rift dev kit has a 7" 1280x800 display. There are already 5" smartphones with 1080p resolution. The biggest hurdles, making the device light enough, minimizing headtracking latency, and computing stereo view on the fly, have already been taken. It's just a matter of incremental improvement from this point on. If VR doesn't break through now it'd be a huge loss for gaming.

I'm very VERY hesitant to jump on hype trains for new "innovations" in gaming, but this really has me confident. This truly might be a game changer. Particularly more for myself, because I love racing and flight sim games, and this is like my wet dream.
