Well fuck. Guess I'll hold off on buying it
Well fuck. Guess I'll hold off on buying it
This is the experience of a single person, mind you. Look in the thread and you'll find many people who aren't dealing with such serious issues.
Well fuck. Guess I'll hold off on buying it
Do people actually take angry joe seriously
Actually a lot of people in the thread are having issues they're just not whining about it 24/7 like most people.
Yeah, but I never said that nobody was having issues with the game. Just that not everybody is having the serious issues that people the Total War Centre forums are making out to be totally universal and absolutely game breaking.

I haven't even played it yet beside launching one time. Guess I will wait for a couple more patches.
I maybe too early into the game, but I have yet to encounter the issues given by Angry Joe. Though I think one army that freezes in place after pushing them back with ONE unit may count as something stupid that may come in more hours in playing the game.
I haven't even played it yet beside launching one time. Or you can listen to youtube clowns scream about it and never play it. Your choice.
no general speeches wow......... that was my second favorite thing, first being just watching everyone fight
no general speeches wow......... that was my second favorite thing, first being just watching everyone fight
There are general speeches. Once you start the battle the general in his unit makes a speech.
There are general speeches. Once you start the battle the general in his unit makes a speech.
It's only one line that depends on who you're fighting though. Rome, Medieval 2, and Shogun 2(?) ran through like 5 context sensitive things, each of which could vary if your general had a certain skill level or trait.
AI is pretty retarded sometimes but it's not nearly as bad as he makes it sound.
AI is pretty retarded sometimes but it's not nearly as bad as he makes it sound.
The thing is that it's not consistent, while people are having horrible AI and passive campaign AI there are people like me (and I'm assuming you) who aren't having these issues. I have had smart aggressive tough AI who have built massive stacks and attacked me and taken out an army and took a settlement. While some people as you can see have completely different results. Lol that is basically all the fighting in the main forums, people yelling the AI is bad in their game and people yelling the AI is good in their game. I don't understand why he is complaining about the AI armies that have like no one left and no cities left and suicide themselves, it's either starve to death or at least die trying to establish themselves again and I'd rather the AI chose the later instead of running away and some how coming out with a full stack from nowhere
The Dune part got me good.
apart from the engine-related issues i've been enjoying this game so far b/c i absolutely love the individual streamlining, rearrangement and abstraction they did to a lot of specific game elements - generally in regards to the campaign map. the diplomacy is a lot better and the new changes to city management imo surprisingly works. there seems to be some specific inspiration of gameplay mechanics and design from both Civ and the paradox interactive RTS games, which is also good. i think it's safe to say that rome 2 has really modernized the TW games, even if it is missing a few touches like the general speeches and the campaign intro.
I'll prolly wait till its patched out and has a price drop in the winter sale before acquiring it

Don't get why this game has so many apologists. I fucking love total war, but there are some major issues with this game, many of which Joe brings up, and are absolutely valid. Time and time again I've been confronted with horrible AI, that makes even empires AI look competent, fucking awful texture quality that looks nothing like they showed off in their gameplay, very unaggressive campaign AI that makes the game a piece of piss compared to games like shogun 2, medieval 2 and the original rome. Luckily I haven't encountered those flags in the middle of battles much, but from what I've heard they've caused huge problems, which I can totally understand since when I played a battle with them in I just rushed the flag and won the game before the enemy reinforcements could confront me. I'm very fucking disappointed by this game, it seems like such a massive step down from Shogun 2.
denial levels are off the charts!
"I don't agree with this overly verbose reviewer" "DENIAL!!!!"
I always wait a couple of months before buying a total war title. Funny enough, I pre-ordered Europa Universalis 4 and it was literally perfect upon release.

I've restarted campaigns twice now because nothing was happening. I sat there and made 2-3 strong armies and steamrolled through everything. The AI never made any significant push into my territories to claim any of my lands. I only had one settlement lost and that was just the AI reclaiming a unguarded settlement that I had just taken and left behind since I haven't seen a reason to worry about invasions. When the AI does decide to invade 9/10 times the army they send in can be beaten via auto-resolve with just the settlement garrison. In shogun if you left your cities undefended you can bet your ass that the AI would poke and prod until it found weak territories. The AI shouldn't just be weighing down your empire's expansion, it should be challenging its existence.

I have had great AI (besides walled sieges) and very aggressive campaign AI. Don't just go "wow everyone who is saying it's not like that is a apologist" no, they just don't understand what you are talking about because they haven't had those issues, don't just hate on them and call them casual console shit apologists like the forum guys are doing, show them how the game is broken, it's why there are so many so called apologists. Because at the beginning me and others who haven't had the issues couldn't take you guys seriously because no one would post proof and you guys made it sound like everyone had the same issues.
An army and a settlement? I've restarted campaigns twice now because nothing was happening. I sat there and made 2-3 strong armies and steamrolled through everything. I was at war on all my fronts (and still basically am) because of that decision and had 2 full stacks attack a settlement, luckily for some good planning I sent in some reinforcements and kicked them out and at the same time an ally besieged their only settlement they left undefended due to attacking me. I have had massive armies against me that I couldn't auto resolve or I would easily lose and would have to fight (and lost in the process due to the sheer numbers, flanking cav and archers, and damn arty) Some people just don't have AI problems and I'm glad I don't HELL I was about to launch a huge 3 army assault on a city but the enemy sent a spy to scout out, found one of my armies and crushed them, then went towards my unguarded capital. Never shit my self so badly in my life.
This is what causes the retarded arguments in the forums I brought up before, NOT EVERYONE HAS THESE ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!
If half your players are playing what is basically a completely different game that's just as bad as everyone having the issues, having it only brokenSOMETIMES is a worse fuck up in my opinion.

People need to realize that not everyone is having the same AI issues and work from there with those that are having the issues. Arguing with people saying that everyone has the issues and if you don't your a casual and an apologist is not going to make Rome 2 a better game. CA said they recognize the issues and are trying to fix them (CA said themselves they watched Angry Joes video, or well Craig did and when it's not 4 am in the UK and everyone else comes to work they will) and that's really the best we can do, arguing who and who doesn't have issues is pointless.
I think the whole debate over whether or not the game is even worth it is insane. There's a level of obsessive nitpicking over issues that I probably never would have otherwise thought about which is, frankly, pathological. The incessant mention of the unit cards, the fact that some people go livid at having slight lag in a campaign map where you can take your time doing everything, the apparently unacceptable mistakes in the AI's behavior in a game where you fight hundreds of battles in impossibly high permutations of terrain, player style, etc. How hard is it to just fucking play a game these days without shitting oneself over every bullet point?
How hard is it to just fucking play a game these days without shitting oneself over every bullet point?
Hundreds of hours of fun experiences builds a certain fan loyalty. Spending 60$ also does alot.
I'm trying to get Joe to try a Suebi campaign, hopefully if he does and sees the AI actually work (which other people playing Suebi as well said they have) maybe the forums won't be such a mess with comparing this to Aliens: Colonial Marines and that they have been scammed and lied to. Yo I'm fixing the game and shit and getting fat stacks I'm rolling in dough I want my name in the credits now, oh well now the forums should be better once angry joe has a good experience and CA should know what's up. No need to thank, just send me free steam games.
