most of it looks pretty impressive but the gpu is about as powerful as a 980/1060? hard to believe its going to run games at 4k without techniques like checkerboard rendering
I would rather it let me play games at 1080p60 over anything 4k
I'd rather have the option of 1080p60 with higher res graphics than 4K, as said above ^

4K is a better buzzword than 60fps unfortunately

It's easier for Microsoft to improve GPU performance than CPU performance without messing with compatibility, so chances are the XboneX wouldn't be able to hit 60fps in many games simply because of a CPU bottleneck. So really the discussion of 1080p60 vs 4K should probably be reserved for the actual next-gen consoles, because there's most likely not much of a choice in many instances from a hardware perspective.

Pretty sure it won't, and a lot of games will be held back by the, still, extremely slow CPU
The current gen consoles are a huge step backwards compared to what the Xb360 and PS3 were when they were first released

I think the XboneX is more of a way for people to use their 4k TVs rather than push the games on it to 60fps, either to avoid an unfair performance advantage or to minimise system resources.

Microsoft and Sony push other things than 60 FPS in favor of sales so that the developers make graphically impressive games to sell the consoles better. Which is why most flagship titles are never 60 FPS. And 4K additionally is better to sell since it's new.

Halo 5 is interesting because it did exactly the opposite. They actively targeted the 60 fps crowd. Though its pretty controversial since they had to lower graphical fidelity and remove splitscreen to make it consistent. They could have made it 30 fps in splitscreen but I guess that doesn't sell more copies. :v:
Most games will use some form of checkerboard rendering, but there will be a handful that'll run at native 4k (some at 4k60, even). Here's a compatibility list: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/6uxq4m/here_is_the_current_list_of_titles_that_will_be/dlw9dtb/ Anything with a regular checkmark is checkerboarded I think. Everything on the list will be "enhanced" in some way though.
Basically, here's the games that run at native 4k so far:
- Crackdown 3
- F1 2017 (60 fps)
- Forza Motorsport 7 (60 fps)
- Halo 5: Guardians (60 fps)
- Killer Instinct (60 fps)
- NBA 2K18 (60 fps)
- Paladins (60 fps)
- SMITE (60 fps)
- Super Lucky's Tale (60 fps)
- Titanfall 2 (60 fps)
- World of Tanks
- Rise of the Tomb Raider (option for 1080p60)
Games running at checkerboarded 4k60:
- Chess Ultra
- Darksiders III
- DRAGON BALL Fighter Z
- FIFA 18
- Final Fantasy XV
- Injustice 2
- Mantis Burn Racing
- Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
- Raiders of the Broken Planet
- Resident Evil 7
- Rocket League
- Sea of Thieves
ARK: Survival Evolved is the only game slated for 1080p60, so basically no games will run at that at launch. There's plenty that'll run at 4k checkerboarded though. Weirdly enough a lot of games just don't have HDR, including stuff like the new Ori that would benefit heavily from it.
Important to note that Microsoft isn't pushing any resolution or framerate requirements for developers for this thing. You could release a 480p30 4:3 game for $60 and they wouldn't stop you.
I'm not interested in this personally, but I'm kinda impressed that they could actually pull this off to some degree.

Funnily enough, that kind of shit probably lost some sales just out of spite. Splitscreen co-op with friends was so fun.

If you start making 60fps a selling point then you're shooting all of the graphics whore developers in the foot because you're no longer saying "okay so maybe it runs at 20fps but look at all of the individual beard follicles you can see on shootman's photorealistic face".

I highly doubt it's the devs, but instead that the mass market cares more about graphics than game feel so that's where the time and money goes to(reminder more money goes to advertising games than developing them)
also it's a lot easier to advertise too

A handful of devs have approached the PS4 Pro like this. Having the option to render at 4k or "4k", or to instead render at 1080p with a uncapped or 60FPS framerate.
It works fairly well, Horizon: Zero Dawn actually turns on some graphical features when rendering at 1080p on the Pro, or supersamples from 1440p or so (checkerboarded to 4k) down to 1080p if you don't have a 4k screen.
I can only assume that some devs are going to look at similar things for the XBox One X, as not every player will have a 4k display.

Pretty sure all H:ZD does is supersampling on 1080p
