God the new sounds suck. Not only because they’re generic, but I’m so used to being able to pick out who ‘s using what pretty quickly with the old sounds

I think the new sounds are a bit higher quality and at least a few of them are more pleasing to the ear IMO, but quick weapon identification is a pretty big deal in CS and a lot of the new sounds do sound a little samey.
The new weapons sound really weak IMO, like some of the new ones are an improvement over the old ones, but weapons like the glock just sound like shit now
I got used to the new sounds and I have no problems identifying what weapon is being shot when hearing it.
The difference between indoor and outdoor recording.
The old sounds had more punch to them due to being recorded at indoor ranges and they actually matched what gun they were paired with, the new sounds are just from some generic sound pack and they're using sounds that don't even match the guns, the P90's soundset isn't even from a P90 or even a PDW, its a random generic mechanical sound that isn't even from a gun (its a piston rapidly decompressing).
Damn the CZ is complete shit, it went from a very powerful bang to some sort of fart
And theNova/XM sounds like a kick in a trash bin
i'm glad they got rid of the cartoony silencer sounds

Rising Storm 2 :Vietnam uses the same sound pack :v:
the P90 in CSGO sounds nearly the same as the M1911 in the game, whilst the Nova uses the same sound as the M37
Add cartoony t-models.
Remove cartoony, distinguishable video game gun noises.
This is starting to feel like nexon's Combat Arms or some other crappy FPS. Why all these changes suddenly?

What's the reason behind changing for the worse ones then ? Did they somehow lose rights to use the old ones or some shit ?
The old sounds hurt my ears
The old sounds hurt my ears
Unsilenced guns do that, but that might explain the change: they just gave all players ear protection gear. :badzing:

Their excuse was audio clarity and the sounds do the inverse of that in most cases.
Personally I think it was just one guy on the team that has a boner for audio and decided THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH and changed everything to meet their personal preference.
Mean its quite clear someone on the CSGO team currently has a lover boner for audio due to the 2 new systems that have been rapidly introduced, we've even got sound occlusion added in since the last update and it works really well.
For me the biggest dumbest change was adding a click sound when you reach your last bullets. God I feel angry and disappointed just thinking about it.
The old sounds hurt my ears
Old sounds were recorded at an indoor range so they overexposed the microphones, didn't help the guy doing the video didn't change the ingame volume which by default, is ear damaging loud even with the new sounds.
Never forget the old ak47 rupturing your ears as you go for that sick 5man spray
Like don't forget, this is still a thing when you launch the game first time.

It is actually that loud, by default, still. And they've "fixed" it multiple times.
So basically all gunshot sounds have been replaced with loud bassy thumps which all sound like they're blowing hot air at the enemy.
Also you'd think they'd finally improve animation quality after all the CS games but it's still something I'd expect from a cheap f2p shooter or mediocre mod, some are still cs1.6 quality.
i prefer pure unadulterated dakka over "pof pof pof", and why do the shotguns now say "blonk"?
the silencers are definitely an improvement though
The m4 sounds are so iconic though, the same sounds being used since 2004. Same with a lot of other guns.
End of an era
I don't like the new sounds but I'm really glad that the ear piercing sounds are gone. I can still identify every weapon just fine based purely on sound.
I miss the old sounds. There was some neat cheese you could do like buy a negev and decoy and throw it on a round start in vertigo to deafen the enemy teams on where your footsteps were headed. The new sounds make it so much harder to gauge risk/reward of your own buys vs the enemy's buys.
hit or miss for me, some sound better some sound quite abit worse imo.
Does the sawed off shotgun even have a fucking pump sound now? The shotguns seem extremely disappointing. They've gone from *BANG* *CHIK-CHOCK* to *badum* *mouse clicking*
And what the fuck did they do to the Negev and AWP? The pistols sound more intimidating than those two, and the guns don't feel like they have any power behind them at all, and perhaps worst of all the firing sound doesn't match the recoil at all. The old AK-47 and M4A1 you could easily feel the power behind them with the loud, distinctive firing sounds. Now they've just fucked it up so that your gun's recoil is akin to trying to fire an M82 one-handed while it sounds like you're farting into a water balloon.
So is modding CS:GO not even a thing? That's what made CS:S so great, there were tons of talented people making models, skins, and maps 24/7. Can you not just change the sounds?
tbh while everyone is saying the guns sound generic but I am not really having problems picking up different gun sounds during my games.
The new sounds are much more pleasing to my ear imo, especially if you plan to play for a long period.

iirc you can but you have to do some weird fucky shit because Valve had a hernia over people making their own skins in custom servers

They just realized it could make them money instead, letting the community do the work.

Such ear-rape.
Even with browser at 50% and youtube at 10% that still fucked my shit up, thanks.
