dat grass tho
I can't shake the feeling that those explosion effects are stock
I'll never understand why 2D sonic games (especially this one) never pull back hard on the camera at high speed, or at least offset in the direction you're moving. It really puts me off wanting to move fast when I can't see what's coming up next :s:
Looks like a generations mod.
Which is fine because I could always use more generations in my life.
The one thing that still drives me crazy is their insistence to put Sonic in the middle of the frame.
I could never react quickly enough in Sonic games because I could never see what was coming next.
Looks really bland, kinda reminds me of a fangame
I can't wait for this console port to not run properly on my computer!
And like most people in the thread, I wish they used the camera a bit better. I've always liked the idea of Sonic running super fast, but the issue is that the games constantly punish you for doing so.

Where the hell did that come from? Both Generations and Lost World have, while not perfect in terms of overall handling, pretty well performing PC ports. It's mostly stuff like handling graphics settings and resolution, as well as keyboard controls, that aren't that great about them.

Sonic generations refuses to acknowledge that I have an Nvidia card and only runs on my integrated graphics. Forcing it through Nvidia's control panel, editing game configs and mods have still not fixed this issue. Also it's incredibly annoying to deal with the fact that the devs didn't bother to change the keys in the menu, so I'm constantly getting prompted to press controller buttons.
I can't say I've had these issues with Lost World though, since I don't own it. Maybe I deserve this since I'm gaming on a 2011 laptop (But hey, I can run DOOM on it at 60fps if I set it to 640x480).
can't people just leave Sonic alone?
it feels like every game is the same shit nowadays

If every Sonic game was the same we probably wouldn't have had to go through Shadow the Hedgehog.
that's how many green hill zone remakes now?
Graphically it looks fine, but the movement and the level design are meh. Something seems iffy about the acceleration and jumping and the level has a bunch of stuff that will bring you to an instant stop like those hidden jump pads which completely kills any speed/momentum that you've built up.
I think Sonic Mania will probably end up being the better game
Not too sold on it yet. Sonic Mania is looking much, much better.
This looks like a unreal engine tech demo or something

Pretty sure they still use the Hedgehog Engine. Don't see any reason why they wouldn't.
Hedgehog Engine looks gorgeous

I know the game isn't near being complete yet. But, still this screams "fan game" more then professionally made.

They're using Hedgehog Engine 2, which is probably where most of the development time the past four years went into rather than the game design itself. Sonic fans are scrutinizing a batch of screenshots of this GHZ level and there's different ring layouts, background details missing and so forth, as if the game is constantly changing right now every other day.

I honestly can't see a way Sonic Mania will be bad.
The working on it made Sonic CD actually playable, and made the definitive versions of the classic titles
albeit on ios but still.

Yep, here is one of the examples.

That worries me is that it's like Sonic Team talks about one game and shows the exact opposite game. "It's a brand new game, not Generations 2", "This is not a Green Hill Zone", etc.

Takashi Iizuka has been known for being more of a marketer with blatant lies than anything else. But they probably meant "not Generations 2" in terms of the story, not the gameplay. Which also means they don't really understand how people interpreted that.

I mean it looks alright, it just feels like something is missing or off, but I don't know how to put it into words. The closest that describes it is InfectedPotato's post about it looking like an Unreal demo. I guess it looks like default engine graphics options?
i don't really see the point in having classic sonic and green hill zone again when both of those things are in sonic mania already

Wow that looks incredible, that's got to be at least five, maybe six textures in one level
I will trust the Colours and Generations developers. They at least know how to make 3D Sonic a bit fun.

i mean its clearly based off of santorini of greece. that's how it actually looks

I also have to wonder just how much of the game is still a work-in-progress. 4 years to develop and I swear 85% of that time so far was spent on the engine rather than the game.
It think I kind of figured out why it look so "bland"? It is because a huge chunk of its complementary color lost : the water.
Eggman truly ruined Green Hill Zone this time.

I hate that map, especially Ruins.
