Popped up in my reccomended
never seen any video before by this guy, but damn does he make it sound ominous. I dont entirely agree with him since youtube is a private company with potential competition, but he does make interesting points about the past and future of the internet.

So most likely he's unhappy that alt-right shit's getting demonetized. Considering the recent Nazi demonstrations, it's not surprising that some commentators may be getting filtered, and I guess it's possible that there could be some guilt by association in action.
There is certainly an argument to be made that YouTube has a massive known capacity to fuck up and needs to be kept honest, but consider the source. :v:

Lol ok nevermind, consider this post removed.
Im not right leaning in any way, but I do fear that the age of internet freedom is ending. However I kinda got a hint of him scare-tacticing with his editing, music and tone.
These tweets are enlightening, just another anti-sjw guy trying to stay relevant by the looks of his videos and tweets. Youtube needs new hot topics besides Jake Paul or "The sjw scourge"
lol
That the thumbnail puts Jordan Peterson in the same boat as Gavin McInnes and Ben Shapiro is disappointing, to say the least. The guy has spent a pretty sizable chunk of his career writing about the psychopathology of the far-right, and exactly why it's so very dangerous.
This guy is quite the type that prefers what makes a good story over what is true.
Just take his well-poisoning used in this video against the anti-defamation league by saying that they're highly partisan and think Pepe is a hate symbol. If you read the actual description they provide, it's actually very reasonable. But he doesn't tell you their nuanced view; because it's more useful to let people run with assumptions.
Pepe the Frog is a cartoon character that has become a popular Internet meme (often referred to as the "sad frog meme" by people unfamiliar with the name of the character). The character first appeared in 2005 in the on-line cartoon Boy's Club. In that appearance, the character also first used its catchphrase, "feels good, man."
The Pepe the Frog character did not originally have racist or anti-Semitic connotations. Internet users appropriated the character and turned him into a meme, placing the frog in a variety of circumstances and saying many different things. Many variations of the meme became rather esoteric, resulting in the phenomenon of so-called "rare Pepes."
The majority of uses of Pepe the Frog have been, and continue to be, non-bigoted. However, it was inevitable that, as the meme proliferated in on-line venues such as 4chan, 8chan, and Reddit, which have many users who delight in creating racist memes and imagery, a subset of Pepe memes would come into existence that centered on racist, anti-Semitic or other bigoted themes.
In recent years, with the growth of the "alt right" segment of the white supremacist movement, a segment that draws some of its support from some of the above-mentioned Internet sites, the number of "alt right" Pepe memes has grown, a tendency exacerbated by the controversial and contentious 2016 presidential election. Though Pepe memes have many defenders, the use of racist and bigoted versions of Pepe memes seems to be increasing, not decreasing.
However, because so many Pepe the Frog memes are not bigoted in nature, it is important to examine use of the meme only in context. The mere fact of posting a Pepe meme does not mean that someone is racist or white supremacist. However, if the meme itself is racist or anti-Semitic in nature, or if it appears in a context containing bigoted or offensive language or symbols, then it may have been used for hateful purposes.
I would agree but I think the point is that all of those channels have suffered disciplinary action like suspensions and demonetization. I can't speak for McInnes because I don't like his content and therefore don't watch him, but I think it's a little absurd that Peterson and Shapiro of all people are the ones getting messed with.

Like before, I don't watch McInnes' content but Peterson and Shapiro are definitely not alt-right.
He also brought up Joe Rogan and Dave Rubin, who are as far from alt-right as it gets.

That doesn't really warrant the horrid scaremongering and warping this video presents, though.
I mean when you're talking demonitization, it's really not hard to figure out why Shapiro and Peterson would suffer it. Shapiro hasn't even been suspended, and IIRC peterson was only very briefly suspended, and then reinstated without much of a reason given either way.
They aren't even being deplatformed. They still get to upload to youtube, utilize the stellar CDN, and do get promoted amongst certain demographics. If you watch a lot of fascist videos, you'll start getting a lot of the same promoted to you.
Sure, their livelihood will have to likely come from other sources, like patreon, filler content on an alt-channel, streams, etc.. But you can't honestly expect a single business model to work for every single channel.
I totally feel that, as a community and site for hosting videos, YouTube has seriously gone down in quality. It is obvious that more and more channels are forced to make niche, inoffensive content or risk having massed demonetization. We saw a video here where a guys 5 minute video of "blah blah blah" was set to private and still demonetized by the automated system.
But it's not like that if you're making a channel that rides on controversy and just being a general cockhead. This isn't like some movie review channel getting hit with a C&D or somebody playing video games that swore too much for Chevy's liking. It's just a bunch of weenies who can't take criticism

Jordan Peterson has become one of the loonies.

Dave Rubin is pretty damn right wing; he is just afraid to admit it and get all the backlash that comes from being an admitted bigot. Just like Sargon of Akkad; both claim to be "Classical Liberals" which is pretty damn laughable. He has the views of the common racially wary white man.

My SO watched Rubin present the weakest examples of racism ever and then let larry elder walk all over him and now he thinks we should not have hate crime laws anymore.
I usually also follow people who will call out both far sides right now. In fact there is a book about The Alt-right uses Dumbass Far-Left to gain support and power and vice versa. even though both are fringe minorities. Right now the Alt-right have a person who basically doesn't condemn them in power. So that is my Primary focus right now.

Actually some videos are not showing up in recommended feeds until the videos or their titles are tweaked enough to dodge Youtube algorithms. A lot of the right-wing youtubers and gaming channels (especially FPS gamers) have been reporting this. TotalBiscuit has been talking about it as well (though he seems to be unaffected so far).
There is at least some element of truth to them being deplatformed, but it's too early to say to what extent it's happening.
To clarify; I meant on platforms in general, not just youtube but Twitter etc as well. Mark my words though; once Patreon reaches a threshold of popularity they're going to kick these people (as well as nsfw artists unfortunately) to the curb
I have a huge doubt about NSFW artists ever getting kicked to the curb, you wouldn't believe how much money certain accounts pull in. There's fucking 12k a month going to some guy coding a furry sex game :v:

I'm really conflicted about this for companies with huge influence. Where do you draw the line? If society depends on a company to exist? Should a private internet company that has monopoly over an area be able to refuse to provide internet access to one specific person? And how do anti discrimination laws work if we should think companies can do whatever they want?

Not necessarily.
How promotion works has always been complicated, and secret (to mitigate exploitation,) which has always resulted in cries of foul play pretty much since the dawn of YouTube.
