is this satire?
Obligatory
If I'm at a restaurant and I get good food and good service, I leave a dollar. Doesn't matter how much or how little the bill was. The only other time I ever tip is when I get a haircut and I really like it. Again, $1. People who calculate tips are dumb cunts.
Also obligatory
The first 30s pretty much conclude the whole video for me. Tipping doesn't really exist here, although I don't really eat a lot in restaurants. Hearing about the US tipping culture always scares me. :v:
His points are so valid, goddamn. I always felt singled out because I hate tipping people and I do it because I'm so pressured to, but I'm so glad he's said it :v: I work hard too and don't get any tips. Tipping is such a retarded concept.
It's fucking annoying how convoluted the tipping system in general is with all of the different sorts of people who expect tips and what you have to pay to them. I mean you even have to tip Police officers sometimes (especially in Russia or Mexico) and it's difficult to figure out how much you have to give them.

I tip because I was a waiter myself and the wage is shit and so are the hours.
is this satire?
Is this satire?
if you're tipping a cop it isn't a tip, it's a """tip"""
How much are you meant to tip policemen in America?
if the service was good I tip between 5 and 10 dollars depending on what I can afford
Rather than tip I eat in restaurants I know the staff are paid well in. Or cook my own food. [editline]4th April 2016[/editline]
I tip because I was a waiter myself and the wage is shit and so are the hours.
Welcome to a lot of jobs. Not just waiting. try retail, or a welding job. neither of those people get tipped because of some stupid social norm [editline]4th April 2016[/editline]
ok but the thing is, servers don't make $7.25 or $15 an hour. we make $2.13 an hour, and the rest is made up in tips. if i made $10/hr as a server, i would not give a shit if no one ever tipped me, because i'm getting paid regardless. but because of the fact that restaurants are allowed to skimp out on paying their workers and instead ask for the customers to provide a living wage instead, you not tipping is pretty shitty. blame the restaurants, sure. as a server, i don't want to rely on tips any more than you want to be asked to tip. but it is how it is
America is in a sad state if that's how it is. I'm not going to support that kind of business.
Welding pays insanely well in the US? Can't imagine going broke as a welder.
I literally have never seen anyone tip in the Netherlands. At most we might say "keep the change". Tipping in America always sounds like a nightmare, was it like 10% or something like that?
I mean you even have to tip Police officers sometimes (especially in Russia or Mexico) and it's difficult to figure out how much you have to give them.
I think that's called a bribe, not a tip.
Welding pays insanely well in the US? Can't imagine going broke as a welder.
The US isn't the entire world.
America is in a sad state if that's how it is. I'm not going to support that kind of business.
then don't eat at a restaurant in America, simple as that. if you can't be assed to throw in a few extra dollars to help someone else live on a $2.13 wage while they literally get on their knees and lick your shoes and do everything you ask of them, then you sure as shit can't be assed to go out and buy overpriced food when you can just cook your own at home for much cheaper
The US isn't the entire world.
Thanks, maybe the point of my post was to highlight a difference I found surprising but feel free to be a condescending ass I guess
I go out of my way to ask hardly anything of the person waiting my table. it sure is a good thing I don't ever plan to live in the USA. And, I already do cook my own food more often than not. it's not exactly a rarity [editline]4th April 2016[/editline]
Thanks, maybe the point of my post was to highlight a difference I found surprising but feel free to be a condescending ass I guess
If you genuinely wanted to do that you wouldn't reply with a rhetorical question
Welcome to a lot of jobs.
I go out of my way to ask hardly anything of the person waiting my table. it sure is a good thing I don't even plan to live in the USA.
If you genuinely wanted to do that you wouldn't reply with a rhetorical question
Good thing we have Intelligent Brits such as yourself to teach us uncultured colonists about the rest of the world then and tell me what was going through my own head, thanks for setting me straight.

I don't think people who say they don't want to tip think servers should starve or not be paid a decent wage, I think they simply dislike the convoluted system that is tipping. Servers should be bound by the exact same minimum wage laws and employers should stop being able to hide behind tips to lower the perceived price.
I think that's called a bribe, not a tip.
But GradeAunderA said that tipping is a kind of bribe. I mean it's very logical. If American society can only function as it does by bribing all of their taxi drivers and waiters then we should tip everybody in every profession. I mean there are lobbyists who tip the president to make sure he does a good job
I made a comment on how the US waiting system is simply broken because of undue sympathy. this is the reason waiters make a baseline 2.13 instead of a regular minimum wage, because the negativity towards those that don't tip have made it become a social norm. y'know, like grade's entire video tried to point out
I think most people understand why tipping exists in the US.
