I agree with Yahtzee bout Quake 2, never enjoyed playing it as much as the first. I just found the level design very repetitive, and I didn't like the tech levels that much in Quake 1 anyway - and that's what Q2 pretty much was entirely.
Personally, I always enjoyed Quake II a lot more than the first one.
Quake 2 may have been a little repetitive in parts, but its still a pretty good game.
Quake II definitely has the best soundtrack in my opinion, even if it could have done with being utilized better.

although Quake 3 tops it at times, and Quake I has the scariest and most atmospheric (and its main theme was rad too). i really hope they'll get some rad industrial metal musicians again if/when they make Quake 5
Quake 2 has dat bunny hopping. Also that fucking sick ass metal soundtrack.

i wonder who would be best to do the soundtrack for Quake 5. i'm not sure how much music Front Line Assembly and Sonic Mayhem produce nowadays, and industrial metal as a genre isn't as popular as it used to be. so i guess the obvious candidate is Trent Reznor again, but i never really liked his more ambient stuff in Quake 1. but then again his newest album does have some very Quake II guitars and sounds, so maybe.
I would love for trent to do a new Quake, I wouldn't mind if Quake became even more horror and lovecraftian focused thematically

The parts around 5:47 sound like someone eating flesh and are pretty unnerving and went pretty well with the atmosphere of the game and monster designs

I think zYnthetic would be a good candidate:
