Man, this year really has been shitty. Like pretty much the only game this year that I didn't regret buying was Doom.
dark souls 3 is pretty good though

Quit being so over dramatic. There's been a lot of good games coming out this year.

Such as.

It's always like this when the previous year was full of amazing releases. There are good games coming out this year too, but it feels underwhelming compared to last year.
Such as.
XCOM 2, Overwatch, DOOM, Darkest Dungeon, Hitman, Enter the Gungeon, Total War: Warhammer, etc etc. Hell, the year isn't even over and we haven't even hit the Holiday release season either.

no man's sky
Damn when he started rapping I thought he was going bring back the classic, the special, but then it lasted for 20 seconds. Make more tracks dunko.
Don't worry guys,[sp]Knack 2[/sp]will save the gaming industry

Honestly outside of DOOM and HITMAN, I forgot all of those games even existed or was released this year (Overwatch had a closed alpha/beta since 2015 iirc), I dunno if it speaks to how they were marketed or just the overall quality of the game (probably the former), and if people forgot those then I worry about games coming during the holiday seasons having the same effect to those that are not people in the know.
I think Dunkey was right about Recore.

Stardew Valley
Stellaris
Divinity original sin 2
Doom
Worms W.M.D.
Headlander
Superhot
Battlefleet Gothic: Armada
Offworld trading company
And probably others I'm not remembering. Big name companies have been putting out terrible buggy games for years. I've stopped caring about them almost completely unless they turn out great and I hear about it after release.
there's been plenty of good indie games, but most AAA releases have been pretty lame.

I wonder how much of it was each of the three he mentioned.
Somehow I find it hard to believe that Microsoft's hand would turn it to shit here.
There have been a few great games but once you start nitpicking you suddenly have a bad year. That and the combination of multiple titles getting a lot of fanfare and eventually turn out to be shit like No Mans Sky
Not as good as 2015 but I feel like 2016's still pretty fucking good.
I mean, guys, 2014 was only 2 years ago and that was a real shit year for games. 2016 is fine.
I can't believe Owlboy is finally coming out. I swear I played a demo for that aaages ago, and then it just dropped off the radar, but I remember it leaving a very good impression. The art is downright gorgeous.
I think this has been a great year
It's pretty much the year of people overhyping things themselves and then shitting on it when it doesn't live up to expectations that were never properly set.
dark souls 3 is pretty good though
Its a worthy successor and feels like a proper sequel unlike DS2
Nothing beats the original though
I feel like the AAA games scene has gone stale with sequel after sequel. At least DOOM breaks out of the box of conventional FPS games a bit but I wanna see more originality from the industry.

The new DOOM went back to the roots of FPS games. Literally health pickups, all-ammo drops, fast-paced slaughter, etc.
It didn't really go "out of the box", it just showed us that the old way of playing FPS games is still a shit ton of fun.

Sure but I feel like it found a balance between old school 90's fps and the new ones. I'm use to seeing most modern FPS games being military shooters where you save democracy or some shit so its quite refreshing.

True. They just did a great job of basically saying, "Hey, every FPS doesn't have to be that, check this out."
this year has been the same as every year. you have a lot of good games and some shit ones where the community/devs hype it up, barely show any gameplay, and it turns out to be shit.

Insurgency is hella good though.
get it

yeah, I thought We Happy Few was going to be so awesome. I immediately got a refund after I bought it, I had my hopes waaaay too high I suppose. I thought there would be more substance... that's the last time I buy an early release game. :(
The only games I am looking forward to now are Pokemon sun and moon, and Dishonored 2.
Insurgency is hella good though.
get it
2014 game?

Civ 6, Battlefield 1, Dishonored 2, all three look very promising so far.
[editline]12th September 2016[/editline]
I think it's just drama from No Man's Sky not rocking the foundations of gaming as many thought it would be.

Alot of people really ignore the consumer factor in why a year can be bad for gaming. Nothing really ruins the fun like consumers getting angry to the point of threats and doxxing.
