is there something unique to it? i can't really see any advantages of playing this over a certain emulated game from 15 years ago..
is there something unique to it? i can't really see any advantages of playing this over a certain emulated game from 15 years ago..
It's Open source, also from the description.
Custom ships are also just around the corner.
Wipeout on the ps1 looked like it handles better than this. It even looked better. Even if it's open source I don't understand what this is trying to be.

The dev team seems pretty dedicated to this, to dismiss the project right off the bat because Wipeout exists is a bit short-sighted don't you think? Who knows, if all goes well we could be looking at Wipeout online on PC very soon.
I played the SHIT out of wipeout pulse on the psp, so much fun it's crazy. This video made me instantly excited when I saw the ship and level design combined with the speed.
Far out, they really nailed the original wipeout physics, looks awesome
Oh wow this looks so damn close to the physics of WipEout. Even though we've gotten many AG racing games lately, none of them have convinced me with the physics. This one might be it though. Not sure how long this guy will be the brunt of the project, over the last few years hes made unfinished wipeout clone after unfinished wipeout clone.
I still play Wipeout HD and 2048 all the time, I was devastated when Studio Liverpool closed, it is by far one of my favourite series.
Creator of the game here, throw me any questions you have and I'll answer them.
is there something unique to it? i can't really see any advantages of playing this over a certain emulated game from 15 years ago..
Feeling like you're emulating a game from 15 years ago is pretty much the idea of the game. The advantage of it is that the game has different content and will in the future have online multiplayer and modding tools.
Wipeout on the ps1 looked like it handles better than this. It even looked better. Even if it's open source I don't understand what this is trying to be.
It's supposed to be a homage to the PS1 Wipeout games, hence the low-res/low-poly artstyle. In particular I'm trying to emulate the style of Wipeout 3. Take a look at the track Aciknovae, that will give you an idea of where the game is going graphically. Also of course the game is still in early development, don't expect it to look the part completely just yet. Physics will obviously be improved further in the future too, there's still quite a bit with the behavior of how the ships hover that I want to sort out.
Not sure how long this guy will be the brunt of the project, over the last few years hes made unfinished wipeout clone after unfinished wipeout clone.
That was one game and it just wasn't going anywhere because I was being too ambitious for what I could do at the time. I look back on that project as more of a learning project then a serious game that I wanted to make, it was clear it wasn't going anywhere when all I was doing was tweaking physics and not making any progress with anything else.
You've convinced me with the physics, and personally i like how similar the graphics are to the PS1 games. [thumb]http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/329/1092693-psd3d024.jpg[/thumb]
For a moment when I read the title I thought it was going to be something along the lines of BeamNG but with guns instead and was puzzled. Oh well, at least this looks like a cool racing game.
Yeah, the name is eerily close to BeamNG. It will confuse people.
Shit i thought it was gonna be like BeamNG but about the physics of guns Why isn't that a thing
Shit i thought it was gonna be like BeamNG but about the physics of guns Why isn't that a thing
I have had my deal of fun(no pun intended) with guns in Phun, but an actual simulation made for that would be pretty fucking great.
Is the map loading an artistic choice or an actual part of the engine?
Within one second of seeing that video I was getting flashbacks to Wipeout. Great work so far.

Just got to play around with this for an hour or so. The physics feel fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for. I'll be following the development of this closely.
why is the draw distance so bad
Anyone able to get a 360 gamepad working with this? I don't think the game is registering separate axis, because it jumps through the menu options without my input, and it's impossible to control the ship since it keeps turning one direction.
Is the map loading an artistic choice or an actual part of the engine?
If you mean the low draw distance then it's an artistic choice, there's going to be a draw distance slider in the next version of the game. If you've got anything plugged in other then a keyboard, mouse and gamepad then try unplugging it and see if that helps. I'm going to stop using Unity's input manager in the next version of the game which is what I believe is the culprit for it. Been a while since we last talked, what's up?

Had to disable my Virtual Joystick drivers. Really good fun so far.
Oh this looks fantastic
I thought this was gonna be a mod for BeamNG when I saw the video thumbnail and I was going to get really, really excited about how Wipeout craft would handle with soft-body based physics damage.
Absolutely terribly :v: Touch the walls at WipEout speeds, and you'd flip out of control and be a pile of garbled polygons in less than a second.
It'd be amazing if it was closer to Trackmania's damage system, where the body can be dented to all hell and be veering all over the place after high-speed crashes, yet still holding together through sheer willpower. Also, I'm immediately hype for reasons of <----- Vonsnake if you need a graphic designer, hit me up. I'll do that shit immediately :v:.
