hello friends, i recently started playing some older games again like fallout 3 and oblivion, as theses games are already 10 years old...
that's strange because i still remember those games like it was yesterday, me buying it in the stores :(
when you compare every year you could say 2007 was one of the best ever!

Let me add a few:
Crysis - new IP
Lost Planet - new IP
Portal - new IP
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Chernobyl - new IP
The Witcher - new IP(well, for a game)
2007 may be the best year ever, starting many great franchises, plus the leap in graphics was huge.
Forgot Super Mario Galaxy.
2007 was probably my favourite year for games overall, or at least it has provided me with some of my best gaming memories anyway. The Orange Box, Guitar Hero III(my fav one), Super Mario Galaxy/the wii in general(I got mine in 2007 and it practically came out that year anyway), Uncharted 1, Rock Band, etc, the list goes on.
Can't forget gta 4

Wait nvm slipped into the wrong year
2007 was really cool since it was when 'next-gen' started to fruition, with developers taking advantage of the new bells and whistles with the tech at the time after getting used to developing with the 360/PS3 after a couple of years. A lot of games showcased all the good advancements made at that time, along with fresh gameplay concepts, where physics, graphics and processing capabilities also dictated a lot in the gameplay department.
Dead Rising 1 came out in 2006 but I found it to be one of the most genuinely 'next-gen' games that came out during that time, while being absolutely fun to play. It went pretty uphill from there towards to 2007 with new IPs and releases as mentioned earlier.
2006 and 2008 also had some great gems. The mid to lateish 2000s were awesome times for games.
2007 November was ridiculous, Crysis, CoD4, UT3 releasing at the same time, Uncharted and Super Mario Galaxy also came out that month on consoles, Orange Box just a few weeks back, and all this while GTA4 was getting really close. Oh and Mass Effect and The Witcher also released around those weeks.
I remember picking up a gaming magazine then and CoD4 barely even made it to the cover.
I remember some people on this forum trying to convince people COD4 looked better than crysis. good times
What's the intro song?

Playing Dead Rising for the first time was such a genuinely surreal experience. It was everything we had ever wanted in a zombie survival game.
2007 was a great year for gaming.
Had there been something of that magnitude since?
Not 2007 but Pokemon Pearl and Diamond was released 11 years ago on 2006, crazy huh?
You can just say 2004-2007 was amazing for gaming.
10 years ago I was 14, still scouring the bins at EB Games for used PC games with my lunch money. It's kinda weird to think about, while everyone was playing these games as they were released, I wouldn't get to play them for another 4 years or so.
I always hear that '97 and '07 are sometimes considered the "best years in gaming". Does that mean that this year will considered great 10 years from now? :v:

Last year was pretty good.
Last year was pretty good.
I'll say 2014 up to now has seen awesome shooter after awesome shooter and it looks like it's going to keep going. Hell, with the news of CoD "going back to it's root" maybe even CoD reform itself into it's former glory.
I'm just sad MOBAs killed the RTS genre.

World in Conflict and Supreme Commander, some of the best real time strategy games of all time, if you ask me.
Shivering Isles came out (totally counts shut up)
God of War 2, to many the best game in the series.
Stranglehold, the game sequel to a fucking John Woo movie.
Crackdown, one hella unique and somewhat experimental open world game.
Assassin's Creed. Extremely flawed but pretty unique for the time, and laid the groundwork for the amazing sequel.
Metroid Prime 3, the last worthwile Metroid game.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma, bringing one of the best character action games onto the PS3.
The second two games in the original Phoenix Wright trilogy.
Armored Core 4, the first of the series on the next generation and a complete reboot of the series gameplay.
GrimGrimoire and Odinsphere, first games of brand new VanillaSoftware.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of Lions, the way improved remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, which I'd personally say is the best game in the Final Fantasy series.
2007 brought a lot of really good and interesting games.
Number 1 should have been the Orange Box as a whole.

I think we're gonna see some mindblowing shit once VR becomes affordable & mainstream.
That Episode 2 one just made me pissed again.
This game came out 10 years ago as well.

I don't know if anything could top 2004, even though most of it's hit games were sequels.
Half Life 2
UT2k4
FarCry
Burnout 3
GTA: San Andreas
World of Warcraft
Doom 3
Halo 2
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Rome Total War
Fable
Katamari Damacy
Star Wars: Battlefront
Metal Gear Solid 3
Back in my day the animals looked like jello when they died, but I liked it that way

Only if Daft Punk does Alive 2017
Wow, 2007 was awesome - I had forgotten how many really good games were that year.

It tends to go in waves where game get better, then there's a peak year where there's just great stuff al year, then it cools down again.
We have 1997, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2011, and 2015 as standouts where we just got barraged with great games, the the years immediately surrounding those having less frequent but still great releases. It makes sense, after the teams which make the stand out games finish there's going to be 2-3 years before their name game, typically.
1982 is the greatest year in gaming history
Nothing since has surpassed Custer's Revenge
Last year is overrated. How many games from 2016 will be remembered in a couple of years and hailed as absolutely great games worth playing? Maybe Doom will be it. But other titles are subjective, I feel.
