Why is Mr fucking Blobby turning up everywhere now? I thought I got over the nightmares 15 years ago

Some reddit user rediscovered this nightmare from 90's British TV and posted it.
JAAAAAAACK
Jesus fucking christ why has this been rediscovered.
Please don't let the BBC revive this monster.

90's nostalgia is starting to become a thing now.
Can someone explain Mr. Blobby to a non-brit?
Huh. I was just listening to the Rooster Teeth podcast where Gavin talks about Mr. Blobby, and then this shows up. Deja vu
He doesn't look too terrifying.

But yeah could someone explain who this guy is?

Mr. Blobby is, currently, just a figment of your imagination. We should strive to keep it that way by ceasing to watch videos of him. He doesn't exist in the present or past, and can only be summoned by collective thought. The BBC started a program in the 90s to summon Mr. Blobby, by creating TV shows de̿̔̉picting this character (like the snippet OP posted). The general idea was to expose the general public to the depiction of Mr. Blobby, thus instilling the thought of him in the m̴i͠n͝d͟s͡ of thousands of people simultaneously. Only this way could Mr. Blobby be summoned. Thankfully, the BBC's efforts failed to reach their target simultane̡̡o͝u̷҉̴s audience, despite huge efforts to broadcast on hundreds of kids TV shows at peak times. H͘ȩ̀ ͞͝r̡̕į͜s҉e͢͠͏s̀͞͏. Fortunately, the BBC pulled this program in the late 90's after realizing the repercussions of summoning Mr. Blobby. DO NO̶T̨͟ ͡T̢͠͝H҉I̧̧͟NK OF MR. BLOBBY. It was discovered that, if Mr. Blobby were to be summoned, he would be the demise of humanity. The transgression from human to blob would ensue and spread through the entire human race. A breach between this universe and the blob universe would have occurred, establishing a world more dreaded than hell itself. H͡e̵ ͡c̕o͘me͝s͘.͏ D͢o no͏t̨ ̴fe͢a͘r͜.͝ The mere existence of human conciousness will be replaced with Mr. Blobby. The infection will spread and exist for all time expanding across the universe in one s̄̏̑u͛̂ͨp͋er̾̾͊̽͆̏n̅͛ͬ̋o̓̂v̌a of enlightenment. Do not think of him. You can only become one with Mr. Blobby now. It was a character created for a British Saturday night TV show in the early 90s. He was originally created for a skit where they'd pretend that he was an established kids TV show icon to celebrities then have him doing dumb crap and being clumsy/irritating them as a prank. He became a bit of a thing where they'd have him in comedy sketches of him basically breaking stuff being clumsy/an idiot and annoying people.
I guess the nightmare stuff comes because a lot of people (Especially in FP's demographic) would have only been 1-10 years old and hes a big pink thing with a really disconcerting high pitched electronic voice.
Was kind of a controversial character I guess, since a lot of people thought it was just rubbish, but he was undeniably popular since he ended up doing lots of crossover/guest appearance stuff.

At least that demographic was too young to see Noseybonk.

Up until reading this comment I had childhood memories of Mr. Blobby being a real and well established kids character though I never remember anything specific I watched.
I'm not sure if you've ruined my childhood or improved it.
Some sort of unrelenting Hell beast.

To be fair he was probably intentionally created as nightmare tier as he was originally supposed to be a fake kids TV show icon, meaning that they could get away with creating the most strangest thing ever and have celebrities having to deal with this eldritch abomination of a character thinking he was totally legit kids character.
Mr Blobby is great anyway.
I'll admit, I think he's kind of adorable.
He was also on the National Lottery a lot I think?
I don't remember being scared of Mr Blobby as a kid, but I remember him having a song that was probably the most irritating thing in the world. I'll see if I can find it.
Also that clip in the OP is fucking hysterical.
Near where I lived, back in the 90s we actually had a fuckin' Mr Blobby Land.
Meant to be a tourist-boom venture, needless to say it did NOT last long and everyone bloody hated it.
Found it.

Fuck that song.
I really feel for Jack during this
Can someone explain Mr. Blobby to a non-brit?
No. Someone cannot explain this.
I remember crying of laughter when I saw him on the Big Fat Quiz show, whoever was in that suit was ,as Dara said, a legend.

Yep, I was legitimately terrified of Mr Blobby.

I learnt recently that there were a number of Mr Blobby themed things across the UK. They weren't theme parks, the where just parks with Mr. Blobby style buildings in them.
Often they would be parks built in the victorian era, lots of well sculpted topiary, some cute little tea rooms, sometimes they have fallen in a little disarray, not horrible but not their former glory.
A slight investment and then they'd be back on their feet! Maybe open a trust for the park so locals can help? NOPE! We are gonna stick a weird cartoon village right slap bang in the middle of it with a soft play area that will close after the second month!
Then those buildings really fall into disarray and the park looks even worse!!

I believe that's exactly what happened with ours.
