Just look at the collection of language books at the end.
Hey, this is my local mall!
You just have to learn a few languages and the rest becomes much easier to learn
The difficulty of learning languages also depends on culture I believe
That cunning linguist shirt.
I wonder how many people they walked up to thinking "yeah this guy's chinese" and started speaking chinese and the person is like "what the fuck are you saying, racist idiot"
Ha, the D!RTY slang books in his collection.
I should try to learn a third language, probably some Spanish would be useful.
My question is this, do people who want to seriously learn these languages and be able to converse with others legitimately use programs like Rosetta Stone? I've always wanted to use it, but when I used the trial version it didn't seem to cover grammar much.
Learned Spanish for three years but I've forgotten pretty much everything. Sort of interested in picking it up again.

I know the Irish guy doesn't use it, he mostly learns by talking to people who speak the languages he wants to learn. I'd assume it's the same for the other one.
Here's a video of him explaining how he learns languages.

The white dude's Chinese is terrible compared to the camera guy's.
This would be more impressive if there was more variety in the languages they spoke, and if their Chinese was better. Apart from English, German (which is not actually shown apart from in the intro) and Chinese, all the advertised languages are romance languages (remember that Esperanto is primarily romance too).
It's also a little suspicious that the camera guy does most of the Chinese talking and the other guy does most of the Latin stuff.

I don't speak Chinese to any notable degree, but I can tell one of the first things they talk about is the language, presumably they are explaining that they're out to practice. Most people probably don't mind that.
I love when he starts speaking some mandarin and the guy with the blue cap just INSTA FIXES attention to him.

What mall is it? I think I live near it too.

The Irish guy has said in comments on YouTube that he's still learning it, he also has a video of him practicing from February.

To me it sounds like Chinese is the language he's having to put a lot more effort into, but it's still impressive.

I use the French Rosetta Stone, and I have levels 1, 2, and 3. I'd say it works pretty well and it's laid out in an easy to understand fashion.
Wish they had clearer mics, was pretty interesting to watch.

Wow, when you hear someone speak Chinese non-fluently it sounds like you are making fun of the language.
Oh please, my tour guide in the Capitol Building spoke more than that!
I think he was fluent in over 30.
If you ever go there, you'll see him. He is really, really old. The staff all wear red so they are easy to find. Just ask him a question in any language, he can answer it, and then hold a conversation.
Oh wow, he actually knows hungarian too, that's a suprise.

That mall looks like the Willamette mall from Dead Rising.
To be a polyglot sounds like you're a glutton for speaking languages.
Wish I were a polyglot :c
I like the way a lot of different languages sound, I just don't have the funds to enroll in a class for them.
Tried Rosetta stone for Japanese and that just did not work. I need an instructor.
That and I just don't feel right only knowing English... Feel like I'm lacking something fierce.

This one was much more informative than the TEDx video.
Also, Rosetta Stone is useless, I've always thought that it was a horrible program that does not help.
Also FYI: those books at the end are the other guy's.

Well, glad to hear that it's not just "me" that's to blame for not getting anything out of Rosetta stone.
I really wanted to learn Russian, but my sister's a jealous type so she gets angry if I do something better than her. She's really into languages and I think she'd be sad if I started learning more then the three I already know, so I'll leave it be.
Wish I could speak a dozen bloody languages.
Holy shit, those guys even got a book about Danish, I wasn't expecting that at all. If you live in a country this small, you really have to speak other languages properly. I understand about 5 languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, German and English) and speak three (Danish, English and German), although my German is a bit rusty some times.

Wow what a bitch. If that was my sister I'd do it just to spite her.
And I can barely speak one.
I feel so dumb around you people.
I actually find Rosetta Stone useful for German and Spanish
For Japanese I wouldn't recommend it at all really, but it's alright for a few basic words like "Onnanoko", but you should really learn the Hiragana and as many Kanji as you can first.
