• Little Overwatch puppet animation explaining basic lore

Made this a little while ago, just wanted to share and get some critical feedback. It's my first full length project that I've done on my own, and I had a lot of fun with this, and I'd definitely like to get more into animation and learning how to actually draw and stuff. Let me know what you guys think :boxhide:
Love the Battleblock Stamper storytelling you have Did you make all the cutouts yourself?
Love the Battleblock Stamper storytelling you have Did you make all the cutouts yourself?
Thanks! My narration skills are nowhere near Stamper's level, but I tried, haha. Most of the cutouts aren't by me. I wanted to get my feet wet in animation, but I'm not that good at drawing just yet, so I used mostly clipart, and a bunch of the sprays from Overwatch, and some other stuff edited in photoshop. I did draw a few things though, the guy who was screaming and got shot with a bandaid I drew myself, and the Bastion turret mode was also drawn by me. However, I followed references pretty closely :s: Also, I did a few of the faces on the globes myself.
How are things like this made? I've seen a lot of these puppet-show-style videos but I've been really curious what program(s) people are using to animate them.

I've seen a lot of these puppet-show-style videos but I've been really curious what program(s) people are using to animate them.
I animated the whole thing in Adobe After Effects, and made a few small extra edits and timing fixes in Premiere Pro. The puppet movements were done using the motion sketch tool, in after effects, with a drawing tablet. There were also a couple of plugins and expressions that were very helpful. The inertial bounce is expression is used all over the animation, and i used trapcode particular and Newton 2 for some of the physics heavy scenes. I was lucky enough to find BattleBlock Theater's development blog, so I followed their method pretty closely.
I know I'm repeating another comment, but I got serious Stamper vibes. Went from "cute homage" to extremely similar in places. Your voice just sounds a little.. younger? Animation was pretty adorable, neat that you did this all yourself. I'd definitely watch other videos like this. Really fun watch!

I didn't want to at first, but I couldn't figure out a different tone that worked quite as well, and I figured half the charm of BattleBlock Theater's cutscenes was Stamper's delivery anyway, so I didn't want to lose that either. And yeah, I'm in my early twenties, I think Stamper is in his mid-to-late-thirties, so I guess my voice would sound younger. My microphone might've also had something to do with that, it's pretty cheap and not that great at picking up lower frequencies, so my voice doesn't come out quite as bassy as it could, and I'm kind of new at processing voiceover tracks to make them sound good.
