I thought it was going to dive in the forest and then fly over the cameramans head.
They should have a special medal for pilot performance during an emergency like that.

I'd love to know the story behind this.
The only things this hunk of metal had working was the rudder and the engine controls
I don't understand how you can land a plane under those conditions.
Tupolev plane is best plane.
The only things this hunk of metal had working was the rudder and the engine controls
Wait, just rudder and thrust? No elevator? No aerilons? No flaps or slats? Give that pilot a medal. Hell, give him several medals. GIVE THAT MAN EVERY MEDAL THERE IS.
I don't understand how you can land a plane under those conditions.
Well, what the pilot was doing (swaying side to side using the rudder) isn't a completely arbitrary concept. It's how you bleed off speed when you're coming in too fast. So it makes sense that he was doing that due to the flaps not being functional. The swaying looks insane and it's impressive that he kept calm and collected in such a state of emergency, but what he actually did isn't completely unheard of when it comes down to landing aircraft. Hell, I had to do that the first time I flew an aircraft, was coming in way too fast and had to do that crazy swaying to kill speed.
That guy's a fucking hero.

Holy shit...
