This is the current segmented Any% World Record for Mirror's Edge speed-running.
Segmented implies that this is a pieced together video of the player's best times. The current single-segment World record is 31:50, held by the same player who made this video.
Oh god, that mid-air jumping.
I had no idea it was possible to break the game this much.
Yeah, if I were the cops chasing her and saw that shit I would turn in my badge.
Could not deal with that shit.
Jesus, it took me 6 hours to finish mirrors edge.
Man what a unique little game. Here's hoping the second one improves what it can.

Yeah there really is nothing like Mirrors Edge, I just hope the sequel can improve on it. Mirrors Edge really in its stride can feel pretty damn good to play but when it trips itself up it can be really frustrating not just in terms of game design but because I know it can do so much better.

Mirror's Edge is a lot like Portal in it's quirky uniqueness - I doubt we'll get a sequel that's anywhere near as good as Portal 2 was though.

I would begin to doubt the laws of physics if i saw her phasing through objects and buildings.
Oh man, those parts he is wallrunning, and keeps getting faster. Any tuts there to do things like these? Might want to try it out by myself.
I thought he was gonna fall so many times
The new Spider-Man movie sure is looking great!

Here are some things I've learned by watching the game speed run, note that I've never done a speedrun of the game myself so I don't know timings or techniques, just reasonings.
When you wall run you gain speed, there's (almost) no limit to how much speed you can gain except for the fact that while wall running you are losing height.
You can build speed by jumping from wall to wall to keep your speed up, however the rate at which you lose height increases with time, meaning this technique has very limited use. Except when you air kick.
Air kicking is literally doing a melee attack in the air. To ensure you have a chance of hitting what you're aiming at the air kick creates a small platform for you to stand on, stopping you from falling temporarily. The air kick also maintains the momentum you had while in the air (because it wouldn't work otherwise). This means you can maintain your speed by using the air kick to nullify falling.
The air kick also allows air jumping, because of the temporary invisible platform created by an air kick it is possible to jump immediately after.
Side hopping grants you full running speed immediately. You often see when he climbs on top of something, or when he falls over he glances to the side, hops sideways and is then continues the way he was originally facing.
It's often faster to dropkick a door open and side hop to full speed than it is to run through it.
I'm sure there are guides somewhere. You should look at the Speed Demos Archive forums or look the game up on SpeedRunsLive to see if anyone is streaming it. I'm sure those guys would have tips.
What happened at 6:43? why did he restart after going out of the map?

The runner triggers a checkpoint save multiple times in the run and then quits back to the menu before going back into the checkpoint that is always in intentional in-bounds areas. The checkpoint triggers seem to be quite generously big and clip into walls aswell.
Pretty cool, but the FOV is disgustingly low
How's that even dumb? The FOV is 60 or 70 or something and it's giving me a weird feeling, which I usually never get
I admire the people that do these but I really hate segmented videos, i'd rather see a from the start to finish run, no edits or anything
This game has come so far in terms of speedrunning. I remember watching either a 45 or 50 minute speedrun a couple of years ago :v:
Man this game was so good. I can't wait to see speed runs of 2.
I admire the people that do these but I really hate segmented videos, i'd rather see a from the start to finish run, no edits or anything
But single-segment runs inherently tend to take longer and are usually far less impressive because they can't take as many risks.
All the best runs out there are segmented.
I love how he flops down on the train and lets faith eat shit.
"Argh!"
"Ah!"
"Hah!"
Holy fuck, I was interested to see how they were going to do the container ship level fast, and they just fucking skipped the whole ship, wasn't expecting that.

I kinda agree, I much prefer single segment over segmented. I like to look at segmented runs as a proof of concept for what a perfect single segment run would be.
I like this game as segmented, because there's no state being saved between maps.
There's no health, there's no guns, no ammo count, no skills etc.
I kinda agree, I much prefer single segment over segmented. I like to look at segmented runs as a proof of concept for what a perfect single segment run would be.
But some strategies are just not possible in a single segment run. They're hardly a good approximation for segmented runs.
(I'm actually not sure if that applies to Mirror's Edge, but most interesting games have stuff you can pull off once in a blue moon.)
That's amazing I was laughing through the whole thing, I love those super mario like wall jumps.
How is that double-jump shit even possible, amazing.

A lot of the game breaking things are possible because the runner somehow fools the game into thinking faith is on the ground, when she's not. This allows for the wall climb ala super mario 64 (jump off one wall onto the other), the double jump, and the insane wallrunning speeds. (cancels out the deceleration since it thinks she's on the ground, allowing the wall to multiply your speed again)

Basically this.
What specifically happens is that there's a bug with the end of Faith's wall kick animation that makes the game think there's a solid floor beneath you for a few frames. In this window, you can jump or side hop. To hit it consistently, runners will bind their mousewheel to jump so that they can send a bajillion jump inputs during the tight window. Something similar is done when they slide into usable level objects like valves or elevator doors, but the window for those isn't nearly as small.

Here's a tut for the kick glitch itself, though most runners don't use nearly as many KG chains in actual runs because it's difficult. The KG mechanics are incredibly wonky and have a ton of different factors that determine your speed, distance, and angle on your jump. This means that almost every one of those KG's in the super fast chains have to be absolutely perfect, lest they miss the spot they need to jump to.
Unfortunately for console users, the nature of the glitch makes it nigh impossible to run, and the slide-use glitches don't work either for whatever reason. Many of the current runs' skips also will crash consoles a lot of the time, so PC is highly recommended.

I digged in those 101 videos. Didn't could find one of these wall-climbs that you can infite climb. Or did i missed it? This is the one i mean,
