Probably just a further sign of the stagnation of Hollywood in a nutshell.
Less risks are taken to break the norm and not be derivative or bank on brand recognition, movies are now more obvious investments than ever.

Isn't kind of a system that works against itself?
Company X takes a risk, makes a great movie and earn a lot of movie.
Company A to Z all start producing similar movies as the first movie from Company X (see Deadpool).
Sounds about right. Wish I could write a screenplay, I could probably write a better movie than that Pixels one at least.

Deadpool is an anomaly (an extremely well marketed one at that), I honestly doubt it'll make any crazy shifts in the industry. Movies have been like this for years and it's probably not going to change any time soon.

Yes.
Isn't this just a continuation of the 80's meta aesthetic and Dawkins' memes? I must be too stupid to understand how this is a 'trend'. I think people have always done this, it's just now it's done with awareness and a wink.
EDIT: For example the Wilhelm scream as an OG Hollywood meme.
