Decided to have a look at the top "most helpful" reviews on Steam. Kind of quickly scrolled through them all to give you an idea, but that's about 100 most helpful reviews before the first positive one came up. "But its not fair, hes rating our game shitty cause he has an ax to grind against microtransactions." Or you know....maybe...just MAYBE...people fucking loathe microtransactions and games that not only have them, but are actively DESIGNED around them. Kinda like a certain recently released basketball game.
i actually own 2k18 and it is an absolutely outrageous just how much microtransactions are involved. before this edition, the microtransactions were just in the back and were there for people with disposable income and not much time. they weren't absolutely necessary to progress your character, even if you played at the easiest difficulty (i played on rookie, which gave out half the VC you'd usually get). in addition to that, you sometimes got huge VC handouts from your sponsors and made leveling up and accessorizing so much easier. but this year everything has just become so bad. the sponsors from last year are paying me like a quarter of what they did last year. they also removed the difficulty multiplier so it doesn't really matter what difficulty you play. additionally, stuff like haircuts and hair colors actually cost money now (last year they were free). originally they were about 1000 VC a cut, but outcry made it 100 VC now. everything costs a lot more now and they're not giving enough VC out through the game to make it easier on us. 2k's greed has turned me off from this game. it has the potential to be the best installment of the series but now it's just plain bad.
I've been getting nba 2k for a long time now and I'm actually prolly gonna end up skipping out on this year because of all this. Like above ^ the microtransactions have always really been there but you've never NEEDED them. Now it sounds like to have any sort of fun at all, you have to buy boosts for this shit. Which is unacceptable

imagine if you had to pay $59.99 to unlock your vacuums ability to detach the hose for suction permanent lock attached to it that would damage the vacuum beyond repair of broken. Key is $59.99. It already exists on it, you already paid 60 dollars for this vacuum. But one of the core features of the vacuum is locked behind a paywall.
