I'm pretty excited for the new No More Heroes game coming to the switch, but this translator made the entire situation super awkward. :v:
I was so distracted by the translator fucking up that I ENTIRELY MISSED the fact that there was a No More Heroes announcement.
Pretty sure the translator's voice was different after this lol, fucking RIP
He sounds so depressed. Someone go give him a hug or something.
I personally LOVE no more heroes 2. It was so much better than one that I actually finished the game all the way through compared to the first which I didn't really like as much.

There were at least 2 of them alternating during the presentation.
I feel sorry for the guy. He seemed nervous and I wanna hug him

They had different people translating for different speakers. They switched between I think 3 or 4 different translators, but after this whole thing that specific translator never showed up again.
I know how nerve racking this can be... Having to interpret for Japan Railways West and meet the president, my nerves were off the fucking rails.
The presenter is not making any pauses for the interpreter himself so that makes it all the more difficult.
i feel kinda bad for Suda51, you can see that he kinda expected a bit of audience reaction from the way he presents(there's a totally different mood between japanese and western audiences too)
note that during the entire presentation, nobody clapped in-between announcements/trailers, just to keep the event polite and clean(since it's awkward if some people get more applause than others). contrast this with literally any event you've seen in the US, where people whoop, yell, and start chanting at the bare mention of a name.
Fuck yeah, Peggle.
Did they change the video or something? All I'm seeing is an interpreter doing a regular job.
The funniest/saddest part was when the translator kept talking after Suda was done only to get interrupted by one of the other translators
I dont see anyone freaking out? Just a guy doing his job unless i missed something
Voice over translator

Freaking out isn't the best word, but he's clearly nervous and doing a bad job
i dont get the big deal though, leave the guy alone

There was one translator that nailed it, he was the one that spoke during the Arms presentation. He'd copy the speakers tones and everything, it was great.
I always thought that they'd write down the script of the speakers before-hand to make it a little easier on the translators. Dunno why this guy went for the job if he was gonna shit himself on the day. He wasn't even on stage with the guy so I dunno why it was nerve-wracking.
I mean that wasn't great, but I've heard much much worse translators.
I'm sure the dude doing the translating will improve though.
Translating on the fly is one hell of a skill
Doesn't help when the presenter speaks so fast and doesn't pause.
I think my favorite part of this announcement wasn't the terrible translator, but the fact that they cut off Suda 51 at the beginning.
"YEE--"
"...hey... oh, that didn't go very well..."

Japanese is a language with a lower information density than english, if this guy was on the ball he'd have no trouble keeping up with it. Further reading if you're interested on information density in languages.

if you're good at translating on the fly it shouldn't be an issue though? and Japanese is all about short sentence structure. it's not like Suda51 is from the deep country or anything either.
why defend someone who choked, lol. he got nervous and screwed it up, standard internet banter here
