Should of posted this one
Had a hard time deciding which one to post out of the two :v:
Should of posted this one
All funniness aside, it's kind of scary to think about something like this. What if our first contact is with an alien civilisation which just sees our entire planet as an ant, and they've got a proverbial magnifying glass?
I prefer Sam Hydes 2070 predictions
The part about denying the validity of the consciousness and emotions of an AI is infuriating, because I see it in theoretical discussions online all the time.
For some reason this video really freaks me out.
oh, we didnt realize we're talking to a planet inhabitated entirely by sentient pussies
Feels more like the neutral or bad ending to me. I usually prefer to avoid the whole AI-merging ending things in the Deus Ex games.
Feels more like the neutral or bad ending to me. I usually prefer to avoid the whole AI-merging ending things in the Deus Ex games.
Don't worry, AI-Merging is essentially dying so you wouldn't have to live through it.
I don't really like the idea of losing our identity or culture, the things that make us human. To basically become a machine and forced to assimilate into a collective conscious. Sounds kinda evil if you ask me
I reckon artificial godhood doesn't really constitute as a good ending if it required the extermination of the Human race.
I reckon artificial godhood doesn't really constitute as a good ending if it required the extermination of the Human race.
The funny thing is that the human race itself is pretty limited in it's ablities. What we usually imagine as a super advanced future is basically just spaceships flying from one star to another as easy as we ride to the nearby mall or immortality through science or whatnot. But what's actually the point of all this? We need goals to move forward, and luckily, we still have a lot of stuff to explore and conquer. But what will we do when we finally get all those spaceships and deal with all the troubles on the path? Just populating planets one by one and living for the sake of living is basically the only option i see, but that's actually just resembles me some sort of a galactic grade cancer. That's why i think that at some point we will have to deal with the fact that the human race as we know it must either dissapear to be replaced by something completely different, or just dissapear completely.

Not even I'm that cynical.

After that we begin to covertly seed other universes with Humans to see how they fare and add there cultures to the collective. [editline]11th March 2016[/editline] Also Gods.
conquer the universe
I'd honestly rather we coexist with any other sentient species we find.
I'd honestly rather we coexist with any other sentient species we find.
considering how absolutely fucked racism is with our own kind that just isn't happening
I'd honestly rather we coexist with any other sentient species we find.
We're probably the borg, unfortunately.
So seeking to understand the galaxy and/or universe and, as a species, become an important chapter in its history is completely pointless? Not even I'm that cynical.
I meant it's not pointless, but it has its limit, and upon reaching it we will have to decide if we want to move on or just dissapear in a space decadent utopia. Of course there's still the third way of a looped progress where you just make the same discoveries over and over again, but that's what actually pointless.
I'd honestly rather we coexist with any other sentient species we find.
You say that but remember that they wont share the same values as us. Trust me when i say you don't want to be friends with the "Rape is okay" aliens, or the "Its okay to fuck kids" aliens, Human Moral crusade incoming xenos. HINT: They do. There is no end to discovery.
Iunno about you guys but I think it's way more likely that civilization will probably more likely collapse, regress, and then rebuild itself and continue on in this fashion until humans go extinct. For all of our powers and abilities, humans are still pretty controlled by the laws of nature or long dead economists and emperors.
I'm going to stand here and say that tranhumanism and AI are probably the biggest pitfalls we could ever develop as a species where we currently stand. The first reason is we still consider ourselves above the rest of the natural world, we do not fully understand nor comprehend the impact we have on the planet besides, 'its bad for the animals and we must save them'. Transhumanism and AI will not be used to help further humanity but rather continue consumption and consumption is exactly what lead us down the ecological hole that we are stuck in now. To fully utilize any of this technology we must first move away from consumption toward either something that utilizes zero growth or put all our money is hoping that changing ourselves will somehow save the planet. Hint: it won't. We do not even fully understand our own genome nor the way our planet actually functions. Just look at climate science that used to say global warming but due to the varying impacts this phenomena has on our planet we've had to change it to Global Climate Change. Secondly, all you have to do is look at how we've used technology in the past to see its future and you don't need to look far. Most of the most recent robotic changes and AI development have been in relation to military usage. Our first robotic children will have guns shoved into their arms and told to kill each other because we cannot agree on something. Further we are currently in equilibrium but you can already see the formations of hegemonic control and empire forming up with American, Chinese and Russian actions. These will not be used as tools for exploration and peace but rather as tools of destruction and war as we see our lives so higher above our own creations that we will let them die for our own follies. We don't deserve trans humanism nor AI. We've not earned that right to use them as we still point nuclear weapons at each other 80+ years after their conception. If we are to explore space, our exploration will have to be through perservierance and sacrifice because that is the only way forward. And as a final note, many people look to technology to make our lives easier and more convenient. While on the one hand that is its point it is also important to remember that fallible beings attempting to ascend to godhood will be just as damaging and lecherous as the Greek Gods themselves. This idea that we deserve transhumanism and AI is on the footing that we are somehow always right.

Its not like in Roman times when all knowledge could be lost if the two guys who knew the special way to get cement to dry quicker die.

The point is we wouldn't act like people at all, much less like Captain Planet villain people. You shouldn't worry about people becoming Greek Gods, you should worry about them becoming Elder Gods. There's no telling what would go on in the mind of what is to us what we are to bacteria, but it probably isn't lying in a chaise lounge eating grapes.

[editline]11th March 2016[/editline] And the Greek Gods aren't Villains nor good people. They're greedy conniving jackasses looking out for themselves.

Its not like in Roman times when all knowledge could be lost if the two guys who knew the special way to get cement to dry quicker die.
Iunno about that. The vast majority of knowledge these days is decentralized in an electronic form or on paper that quickly breaks down within a few decades. It takes twenty or more years to train somebody from illiteracy to being able to maintain a nuclear reactor, the vast amount of infrastructure required to maintain this complex society is mind boggling and only possible with cheap and readily available energy. Were we to have a nuclear war or a slow and sustained global economic decline (imagine Japan but worldwide), it's pretty likely we would lose much of what is needed to maintain complex society. In the future it's pretty likely that we'll hit the wall of diminishing returns and then have to spend all of our excess capacity on maintaining civilization rather than investing it. After that it only takes a few crisises to take us on a path towards irrevocable decline into a society that is capable of maintaining itself. Of course when civilization collapses it won't regress to medieval standards, but it will similarly take centuries to recover.
