Quick snippet of this mornings happenings, it wasn't me driving it was actually my roommate. Everyone is fine so don't worry but I feel this serves as a PSA to always be cautious while on the road. This guy could have really hurt or easily killed. Keep it on the crosswalks folks.

And luckily the only damage.

My poor car :(
P.S. how about that timing with the music?
should had cut off the video with "didn't say I warn you"
honestly with school kids about I have to slow down with buses.
but this was a grown adult in the evening. wot a plum.
Idk how this is teached but here you have to always slow down at least a little when driving past a bus as this exact scenario could've turned out way worse
Good thing nothing too terrible happened to anyone except the car

Yeah agreed, I don't know how many times I have seen a bus driver yell at someone to not cross in front of the bus. This guy not only crossed in front but RAN in front, not even in a crosswalk. He ended up limping away and wouldn't stop so by the time my buddy called the cops and tried to track him down he was gone. Lesson learned and a $50 mirror to replace. I just hope that the guy learned his lesson. He was lucky he didn't get hit head on but he still rolled off the side of the car so I bet he will be sore tomorrow.

No laws about that here, if it was a school bus he would have thrown his flashers and flags out and it is illegal to pass him. Public transport is open game, once you leave the bus you are responsible for your own actions.
I still by habit will slow down a little and I think I can hear that my roommate let off the gas a little before he passed the bus but even at that slow speed (30mph zone) he had no time to react.
sucks that he walked off, but good that he was capable in the least. Also good your friend called the cops and had video evidence of what happened, it's on record now so if he somehow remembered your licence plate it'll be hard for him to call insurance in a day or two to claim hit-and-run
wow he literally dashed across the road without checking for traffic like a child would do...
imagine if you didn't have a dash cam.

Yeah I picked that one up because a buddy of mine just got himself out of a lot of trouble with one. He got into an accident with no witnesses expect the person he hit. But he had the footage to back up his story and show he wasn't at fault and with the way the accident panned out he would have looked to be at fault without the footage.
This camera cost me $50 and it has proven incredibly useful already. Like said above if this guy tried to sue my buddy it will never go anywhere because the video clearly shows who is at fault.

Kind of sucks that we will have to pay for the mirror but it is what it is, luckily it is a cheap and easy fix for a 3rd gen prelude and I am able to fix my own stuff.

see this scenario is fucking ridiculous.
If you had no evidence yet the guy who was hit ran away. You as the driver could still be done for it.

Funny that you guys see it that way. In Germany you HAVE to drive slowly when passing a bus at a bus stop, exactly because of this kind of scenario.
[editline]a[/editline]
Oh wait Plaster already said that, didn't see it
What a fuckin' lemon. This is why i always go to crosswalks and follow the lights.

30mph is pretty fast as that is almost the speed limit inside cities and towns, normally you'd drive by a bus at around 18mph, and if the emergency light are on while the bus is letting people out you're only allowed to drive past the bus with like 10kmh which I think is around 5mph. I can already tell that I will fuck up terribly when driving around in the States.
been in a similar situation, bus stopped to let me cross, couldn't see the traffic on the second lane, then when i tried to cross a truck whizzed by
traffic lights weren't working that morning either

Not sure how it is in Germany but even if you slow down to a crawl (eg passing through a drivable pedestrian zone at 5km/h) , if anyone gets injured it's still the driver's fault regardless of whether the person that got injured was drunk or reckless.
I can already tell that I will fuck up terribly when driving around in the States.
this is the only bus passing rule that applies here, and it's kinda blatant so I'm sure you'll do fine. (less obvious rule: oncoming traffic also needs to stop)

If you're cautious about passing up a city bus nobody will blame you for slowing down, but unless they're at a crosswalk they don't have legal right of way.
There's unfortunately a chunk of people who just assume pedestrians have 100% power and will walk in front of shit and yell I HAVE RIGHT OF WAY JACKASS if they get honked at, but you usually only find that in walmart parking lots [sp]please be careful my ex will punch your car in the face if you get too close[/sp]
It's drivers ed basics here that you have to be cautious when passing a stopped bus and to expect people running for or from the bus. It's also illegal to pass a school buss with hazards turned on.
Are you Agentfazexx's wife or something? Why are you passing a stopped bus?
Like he should have looked both ways but he's not 100% in the wrong here. You didn't even slow down, which is supposed to exist as a rule for this exact reason.
I'll ask this: What if someone who was vision impaired or even blind had to cross in this way, opposite of a bus, and is given a clear by one of the drivers? The bus being stopped like this is to prevent people from just crossing.

Literally in the first line of the OP

I'm addressing whoever is driving in the video, and the point still applies
Why are they, the driver, passing a bus like this?
[editline]15th March 2017[/editline]
I mean, I'm saying this because obviously running across the road like this is a dumbass move, especially without looking
but that's already obvious
I'm addressing whoever is driving in the video, and the point still applies

Different laws and rules in different places. It was discussed earlier. That also looks more like a city bus, most places don't really have rules about passing them.

A court would probably rule in the drivers favor, but I thought it was known that you should slow down near any vehicle with hazards on, especially when you can't see around the vehicle?
Drivers also have to work to prevent this kind of thing. If you can't see any running dipshits, you have to predict where they could come from.
wow he literally dashed across the road without checking for traffic like a child would do...

I mean I assume the bus driver would totally back up OP as a witness. The runner was to blame 100%.
If you're going to take every possibility of an idiot doing something stupid when driving, you'd just leave your car parked.
If you're an adult and you're running into traffic like that, you should count your lucky stars that the only thing that happens to you is a slight nudge. Pedestrians need to get their heads out of their asses and remember these are metal boxes moving at high speeds
I'm not saying the drivers the one in the wrong.
I'm just saying that a driver can be more cautious in a situation that obviously needs it, like a stopped bus. If you can't see that someone might be coming you have to assume someone is.
There was this one time i was driving and had to swerve and slam the brakes because some dumbfuck was wearing all black, at night, pushing a black baby stroller, in an area with no crosswalk, no light, not even a streetlight. The fucking moron didn't even look to see if cars were coming. I didn't see him until like a second before I would've killed him and his kid.

If everyone drove like that I'd never get anywhere I need to be

That seems like a really good way to end up under a car :v:
Yeah man, all those buses, you'd have to slow down like every 30 minutes!
Sure, if you live in an area with more bus's than cars I'd believe that
But I thought trying to predict where a pedestrian or car could come from was a basic part of driving?
that t-swift was a great addition
The buses here in Rochester have a nice big warning on a sign by the door telling you not to cross in front of the bus when exiting it for this exact reason.
Is this not a common thing?

holy cow
A) Passing city buses is not illegal. Slowing down is advisable, but not required by law, and that's only because this kind of a thing can happen: brainless pedestrians can just appear from nowhere out of the profile of the bus. It is absolutely not worth obstructing the flow of traffic for it, though.
B) You NEVER walk in front of a running vehicle. My dad taught me this when I was 6. A car can't hit you pulling away from the curb if you walk behind it. Furthermore, if you're leaving a city bus and decide to jaywalk, you walk BEHIND the bus where drivers can see you and you can see the drivers.
C) This absolute fucking menace sprinted out into oncoming traffic without looking. Even if the driver was going under the speed limit, there was no way the collision could have been avoided. In fact, if he had been going slower, this would have been a hood strike instead of a mirror clip and would have more likely than not caused severe injury to the pedestrian.
Christ almighty, some people are real desperate for zingers.
