Yeah, by now we know that The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Portal, Jurassic Park and the kitchen sink are all featured heroes in this latest LEGO game. But here we have the excuse plot:

Man, makes me almost willing to part with $100 to get the base game.
[sp]I'd love to see the two Batmans as equally playable characters.[/sp]
any game in which Batman teams up with Gandalf is at the very least worth a look

Lego started Microtransactions before anyone knew what to call them.
Given how much of a financial disaster Lego Universe was because of its subscription model, what makes them think making a game that relies on micro transactions will work?
It's not microtransctions, its Skylanders-like and Skylander tech+Lego= Money since they include out of game playability unlike Skylanders/Amiibos and those already generate tons of cash before licensing and being Lego AKA the best selling toy in the world.

Oh so it's more an incentive to buy toys than a self-sufficient game then?
I would buy this but it's not going to be on pc so whats the point

Pretty much, but the way it works it all feeds back into Lego
You buy the game, you need the toys for further content
You buy the toys, you don't need to buy the game but at the price point the packs are going at you want to get as much out if your money as possible and buy the game to use the in-game featuresfeatures of the pack which hopefully leads to buying more toys.
I haven't been following this game but I see Lego/TT is as unimaginative/lazy as ever.
Sure the formula was decent in the first few TT games, and hey, maybe the newer games play well too. But the games aren't even about Lego. It's just franchising with relevant minifigures and interactive objects thrown in mediocre looking environments. The haunted house, the alien temple thing, the Back to the Future III town hall... they're throwing away so much potential it physically pains me to think about it.
I mean really, if a couple random guys can throw together shit like this:

... in a $10 legally distinct Lego knock-off game, locked to an invisible grid and strict 90˚ brick rotations, just for kicks, then what's your excuse, Traveller's Tales?

Look up Lego World, it's extremely barebones right now but it looks like it's shaping up to be a Lego version of Minecraft. I hope it develops into a great sandbox game and doesn't end up being some gimmick.
New Lego Island game in the style of undercover instead please?
