Apparently they are being harassed by the Best Buy/Police because they are "trepassing" and too early.
In their official Business Wire press release to the media for the official Nintendo 3DS launch event in the Union Square Best Buy in NYC (at which the president of NOA will appear), nintendo encourages media to watch out for, and this is a direct quote,
"Hundreds of fans camped out in front of Best Buy in Union Square for a chance to be among the first U.S. consumers to buy a Nintendo 3DS "
Now, the first in line, Triforce and his buddy, are being harassed by NYC Police and Best Buy management and security who are accusing him of "loitering" and "trespassing"!!! All they are doing is fulfilling Nintendo's own publicly communicated hopes for the turnout for their big 3DS launch!
Nintendo are the ones who spoke enthusiastically of "hundreds of fans camped out" in front of the Union Square Best Buy for the 3DS, and now they're getting fans camped out and they're being harassed!
Is this just a big photo op for you Nintendo and Best Buy, or do you really care about making sure your most dedicated fans are having the best time possible as they blaze the trail for your new system to become a best seller in the face of "experts" claiming that portable game systems are obsolete and that the future of mobile gaming belongs solely to chintzy cell phone apps?
Anyone in manhattan who sees this, make sure Triforce gets a copy of this press wire so he can show it in the face of the security guards and managers of this store for proof that this is EXACTLY what Nintendo wants.
Nintendo and Best Buy wont want reports of fans at their No.1 launch event in north america being harassed by cops and security of that very same location that's hosting the event, so i advise they act quickly!
I think Triforce and his friends are totally nuts for being dedicated to showing up this early, but I want them to know that they have NINTENDO'S OWN OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE on their side as far as this event is concerned!
At the very least give them special tokens or papers or numbered tickets or bracelets affirming that they are the official first in line!
-snip-
I would've done that if the line would be like the one for the iPad 2 earlier.
"I wanna support Nintendo, and make sure their system is on point"
Wonder what he did for the DSi
I've never understood why people camp out for days for this kind of shit
Well it's quite simple you see they want to be first through the door when the massive lineup forms.
[editline]23rd March 2011[/editline]
Have you not seen a Black Friday video?
What if the line started on the other side....
Step 1: Order online
Step 2: Arrives on release day
Step 3: Laugh at idiots who waited in line
Step 4: Throw it in the god damn garbage because it's a piece of shit.

I don't love videogames SO MUCH that I'd camp out in front of a store for a whole week or even a day to get the newest console or handheld, much less risk being trampled

You piece of shit people wait outside because they are excited for something that they want and they want to be first. I don't know if you were raised right but where I'm from you don't just chuck something away just because you don't like it. The way you are acting is like if your mum bought you a PS3 and then you play it for 5min and then say it's shit and chuck it away. How dare you act that way, that man had every right to buy his 3DS and wait for the release day. It's shows how dedicated he is to his gaming and hobby so the next time you decide to throw some shitty comment stop and think why people do it.
so theoretically I could go into the city and shake his hand that's pretty cool
In theory yes.
What a badass
Reminds me of the time i saw a bunch of people trying to camp outside HMV for the MW2 launch 2 days before it came out.
There wasn't even a midnight launch and the store was inside a shopping center.
Have to say i finally tried one out today in a Gamestation and im not really bothered about them i mean they're nice and all and i could get the sort of depth within certain parts of games but nothing boasting an awesome 3d experience it claims to have.

I'm guessing you only tried Pilot Wings, which hardly shows anything.
I can't wait for him to finally get his hands on it to realize it's a piece of shit and be completely destroyed on the inside. That will be a good day indeed.

Pilotwings on the N64 was fucking awesome, major part of my childhood right there.

Oh I know. The original was great. But this one is just a crappy version of the Wii Sports Resort airplane minigame. I tried it and it was boring.
Camping out for a new release isn't necessarily about getting the game before anyone like a smug bastard, it's just more fun to hang out with friends and fellow gamers, and to take a break from everything else just to dick around in front of a retail store.
