MW2 is both amazing and garbage in my memory
MW2 is both amazing and garbage in my memory
I think a lot of my memories of it being bad came from all the negativity surrounding it, which basically began with MW2. Ironically, MW2 and Black Ops were probably the last 'great' Call of Duty games, and that's when the hate was strongest I'd say. Thinking back to it, I honestly remember being blown away by it, especially with the Space Walk followed up immediately by a fight to the, now destroyed, White House.

And we can't forget about Otherwise it was a good game from single player to co-op and multiplayer. Hans Zimmer killed it with the soundtrack too. I still pop into the campaign every now and then if I want some gratuitous action movie gameplay.
I loved the shit out of MW2, the campaign really was a film that you played.
MW2 had a really fun, over the top and arguably silly campaign that took itself seriously enough to seem like an action film. I really appreciated MW2's campaign for just being so damned fun. It's pretty timeless, in my opinion. The soundtrack kicks ass, the characters are fun, and I still remember booting it up on my PS3 to play with friends those many years ago.
The levels in Washington were cool as shit
MW2 is both amazing and garbage in my memory
the story was terrible but it had some of the most memorable moments a shame after it released story based linear shooters became "the cancer that was killing the games industry" and then we got 5 years of mediocre open world games with nothing to do in them

They stopped doing fun stuff and all the guns felt the same.
The levels in Washington were cool as shit
I remember being blown away by that big reveal with [sp]the fucking white house in flames[/sp]
shame nobody plays MW2 on PC anymore, although I guess that's good riddance considering the cheat detection sucked ass and even TDM servers were rampant with aimbots on Xbox 360 you can still find games at nearly any time of day in most of the big gamemodes (TDM, S&D, HC S&D) and most people that still play the game have mics, so it's nice to play the game the way it was meant to be played. no more screaming kiddos, they have all moved on to other games
I didn't really like Black Ops as much. Sure, one can see that they are trying to take their own steps, but in the end, Modern Warfare 2 is really the notorious military shooter taken to the max and getting all the fun out of what exists there.

Shame the Zombies was a bit on the bland side though.

I definitely can't deny that they did make a lot a lot of improvements from a story mode standpoint though, as you stated.
Surprisingly, the multiplayer is still alive and well on the Xbox 360. I think cod 4 and mw2 were the best cod games because they were simply fun to play. Yeah, some aspects of it were broken as shit, but I think that only added to the charisma and replay value. The only patch that IW made for the game is reducing the range on the model 1887 snipers- er, rather, shotguns. Every other aspect of the game that was supposed to be fixed was left as is, and that's why I think the game is an absolute gem, even by today's standards.
I'm surprised MW2 is completely dead on PC. CoD2,4 and WaW still have a pretty decent population
I think the big problem with the campaign is that it went from MW1's very sensible plot involving the US invading a Middle Eastern country, instability in Eastern Europe and terrorist nuclear plots, and then MW2 came out and RUSSIA IS INVADING THE WORLD!!!
MW2's multiplayer was and still is the shit.
Kill me for saying this but World at War was surprisingly good on the Wii.
Oh and the amount of hackers in MW2 because of P2P for multiplayer sucked. BO2's multiplayer gave me a lot of fun too with how different you can make loadouts. But those are the only CoD games I've played so I can't speak much about the other ones. If anyone wants to have some different fun in MW2 I came up with a tense gamemode to play with a friend or two. Everyone makes a sniper class with whatever perks they want. Make a free for all game on a large map like Wasteland or Afghan. These rules: [t]http://i.imgur.com/Uc8cJ8z.jpg[/t] The whole point is to creep around and hunt down the other player(s). My friend and I played this and we were moving around so slowly looking at every twitching piece of foliage. If I remember correctly we met back-to-back one time.
MW2's multiplayer was and still is the shit.
Tactical Nukes aside, it was the right kind of batshit insane, run-and-gun craziness with no real gimmicks attached when everything worked right. Lightning struck for Infinity Ward, and it struck hard. But then the series, while only occasionally dipping low in multiplayer (*cough* ghosts as a whole *cough*), has been trying to capture that same lightning in a bottle over and over and it just doesn't ever mix well enough. Modern Warfare 3 is a good example, where the spawns were godawful and often put players infront of the people that just killed them, and there weren't enough new ideas to justify giving a shit. But I guess that's what happens when the people who actually know what the hell they're doing ditch because of publisher hell.
He must have his NAT settings to strict. I have mine on open and I can find a game within 30 seconds to play online.
Idk i could still easily find games in Europe half a year ago.

I still feel a bit ashamed on how the CoD that I've spent most of my time on was MW3 :v: despite BO2 being better than it in every single aspect. Infected in large 18+ man private lobbies was the shit though despite the broken as fuck spots in some maps
MW2 is still popular on xbox 360, I can always find a match of TM or domination in about 5 seconds to a minute (weekends, after 5pm on weekdays) [editline]7th March 2017[/editline]
I'm surprised MW2 is completely dead on PC. CoD2,4 and WaW still have a pretty decent population
Everyone fucked off to AlterIWnet (is that what it's called) which was a mod for mw2 that installed a server browser and allowed for custom game modes and custom servers but the downside (and ultimate downfall) was that it allowed cracked copies of mw2 to access the service thus getting DMCA'd in about a year it was fucking huge, so many servers and so many people, 24/7 18 player rust or casual pub, it was amazing and it had decent cheat detection + dedicated admins. But it didn't rely on steam works and had its own in house system which like i said got it killed
