God bless modders.
Geez, he's really banging them out quickly now I love it.
Easily one of my favorite games of all time and it's what got me big time into Star Wars.
what the FUCK the missile launcher had a multi-shot option?! [editline]12th August 2017[/editline] that wouldve saved me so much damn pain against the Magnaguards and Spider Droids back in the day
Whenever I play this game there's sparkly artifacts all over the textures and the mod doesn't help. I've always wanted to play this but I kinda can't. What do?
Soooooo, what's so bad about the story that it's basically unmentionable?
Soooooo, what's so bad about the story that it's basically unmentionable?
its not bad. its just very shallow. infact you could argue the game has no plot. its literally just "you elite guys go there and fuck shit up for us" and thats more or less it.

Probably my favourite FPS game. Shame the sequel was canceled
Probably my favourite FPS game. Shame the sequel was canceled
It wasn't technically cancelled, it got continued as a really shitty book series.
It wasn't technically cancelled, it got continued as a really shitty book series.
The planned Sequel was unrelated to the books IIRC.

Man there's something amazing about using shotguns in FPS's
I played the ever loving shit out of this game when I was younger. This might have been my first multiplayer console game. I remember signing up to original xbox live just to play this. Also yea the singleplayer is super atmospheric.
Man there's something amazing about using shotguns in FPS's
All the Trandoshan guns but the sniper rifle were pretty garbo, though. The shotgun was at least good for killing the berserker guys and the scavenger droids.
Republic Commando is the best Star Wars game IMO. It's really a shame that no other fps seems to have picked up its squad formula and mechanics.
This is probably one of my favorite shooters, besides like, Halo 2. Honestly I'd be hard pressed to decide which I liked more as a kid. It also solidified my voice of the clones as being Temuera Morrison's in my head. Everyone else sounds like an imitation compared to him, now. :v:
Halo 5 tried, and failed due to low quality squadmates.
Which is funny, since I think one of the lead devs on Republic Commando was a part of Halo 5's time, which is why the teammate system was even a thing. Except 343 basically made the AI partners nigh-braindead and the orders basically useless, ontop of the fact that there's no real point to the system in the first place besides reviving buddies mid-combat - which the AI is absolutely shit at doing. It's kinda sad, Republic Commando was considered Rainbow Six in Star Wars, but it's like a foreshadowing of the action-focused, linear Rainbow Six Vegas games except better designed than them anyway.
I think game devs nowadays are scared of giving the player competent squadmates. They are so wound up in making the player feel ultra powerful and badass that they probably think squadmates capable of actually carrying their own weight would piss players off by "stealing" kills and whatnot. This game got it right in that sweet spot wherein they are competent but you are still the megakiller deathlord needed to get through the level. Halo 5 definitely missed that mark by quite a bit.
All the Trandoshan guns but the sniper rifle were pretty garbo, though.
looking at you, peashooter SMG and the Concussion Rifle was hilariously broken against Super Battle Droids thanks to the EMP stun effect it gave droids you stabbed, you could just walk up to the Supers and stab them to death with the rifle

The last time the worked on Halo was Halo:Reach. You have 343i to thank for ass raping Halo into Oblivion

Starting to play it, and the aiming feels kind of off. It's kind of frustrsting.
Republic Commando was the game which introduced me to shooters in the first place. It will always hold a special place in my heart. As much as I'd like a sequel to it, given the current game trends, it sets a grim precedent to what it might become if it ever were to happen.
I think game devs nowadays are scared of giving the player competent squadmates. Just goes to show how stupid the whole "player gets downed = game over" trend is.
Republic Commando is the best Star Wars game IMO. You could even tell your squad what to do with a headset. Those games aren't made anymore because everyone just plays Multiplayer games nowadays.
Another thing that always bugs me: in squad based games like Mass Effect, you're able to revive teammates, but if you die it's game over. Why can't my squad revive me like in Republic Commando!?

Most games with "smart" AI like FEAR and Republic Commando work because they were designed around the AI - level design, combat mechanics - it's all optimized for the AI. While I haven't played Halo 5, I doubt they ever made such concessions at least when it comes to the combat mechanics. Or it could just be marketing guff since they had AI partners since Halo 3 and they were shit. Republic Commando was my jam as a kid. Until I got it again in a Humble Bundle 10 years down the line, I never remembered that it was one of those awful Xbox backports that were so prevalent around the same time (looking at you, Battlefront 2) but it still looks pretty good, given the circumstances.
