I remember watching reruns of things with CGI like this while I was growing up and thinking that it used to look so cool. Skip to 19:13 for a fantastically kitschy music video.
I love vintage 3d animation 3:15
There was this one cgi animation where there was music playing, but the video was these bundle of weird instruments that robots or lots marbles would play. I forgot what it was called [editline]19th July 2017[/editline] Animusic, that's the one!
Yea I watched the fuck out of these growing up, along with other similar style VHS cgi compilations I can't remember the names of atm. This one was part of a series of films with this being the 2nd entry, first was just "Mind's Eye"

I think I still have mind's eye trilogy somewhere in storage lol

I'm one of the lucky many that backed it lol, but I don't mind since I watched animusic 1 and 2 for free anyways. Who knows what happened tho. Somewhere along the way they somehow ended up making a (mostly?) unrelated CD instead lol and that was pretty much the last we heard from them.
Seeing what CGI is today compared to this is amazing. I would love to see what CGI would look like in another 15 years. Probably have realistic looking CGI people at that point. We can already do an OK job at it, but only in limited quantities.

There's a unique charm and often even a little creepiness behind vintage CG animation. I like it.
There's a unique charm and often even a little creepiness behind vintage CG animation. I like it.
Something about it feels really homey to me. I get a lot of 80's-90's Star Trek: The Next Generation vibes from the music, too.
anyone else?
I remember seeing this on TechTV's old show Eye Drops. It was a compilation of 3D animated shorts like this. I miss that show so much. Can't find the episodes anywhere.

[editline]19th July 2017[/editline] Also, these remind me of those Bryce 3D renders [t]http://www.aifweb.com/galleries/bryce/images/disused_track03.jpg[/t] [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a6/Bryce-demo-May00PicOfMonth.JPG[/t] [t]http://neosurrealism.artdigitaldesign.com/modern-artists/?images/midsize/digital-art/hook-bryce-software.jpg[/t]
Also, these remind me of those Bryce 3D renders
That top one reminds me of Myst, and for some reason I'm getting Elder Scrolls vibes from the last one.
I can't actually put into words how much I love this series (yes, it's a series of films). They inspired me so much to get into 3D modelling and animation, and I just love it so much.
Where's that absolutely shit 90s looking network educational video about firewalls and that? full CGI, dunno if it was 90s or just bad looking.
anyone else?
Way more satisfying to run yourself, especially on a Radeon 9700

Holy shit, blast from the past

holy shit i had so many of these on VHS, and a few books too. I hope the tapes didn't rot in my mom's basement
Way more satisfying to run yourself, especially on a Radeon 9700
For a second when it was loading up, i thought it was referring to 256 megabytes of video ram, but it was referring to system memory. Oh how time flies when it comes to system requirements.

Glad you posted this. I was trying to look for this but I forgot what the series was called.

FYI this is from eyewitness's official channel where they've uploaded every episode: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEBTfxJ13zkpZVbZTF3aukg?&ab_channel=Eyewitness-OfficialChannel They only have the 3rd season of the US version though and some of the videos are in poor quality. Also they have a playlist with this in it?:

holy shit, one of my oldest fuzziest memories has been made clear thank you so much
The Minds Eye series was the shit. I have all three movies on laserdisc, plus the official audio CD for Beyond The Minds Eye. Back in the 90's up in Canada YTV would play portions from the first two and another called Imaginaria as filler between TV shows in the evening. If it wasn't for them I would of probably never thought of pushing beyond shitty 90's PC's and low-end 80's computers and started collecting higher end graphics workstations where as you start watching more about them you begin discovering many of the above videos in their unedited form from the production studios and universities that produced them. I have this on VHS, used to watch it all the time as a kid.
