Perfect timing, as I just started another run yesterday
What runs have you already done, and what are you planning to do now? [sp]I did a psychotronic heavy run, basically got everything you can get, plus a shit ton of weapon mods. Had to farm resources like a motherfucker to get there (plus all available quests finished), and the later half of the game became piss-easy[/sp]
Typhon only. I barely ever used their powers in my other playthroughs so I need to give them a proper shot.
typhon only is torture
I was planning on doing a Typhon run, considering my first run was a 'purist' one where it was only tech mods
typhon only is torture
Yeah, it's so weird not being able to hack or repair anything, but none of the enemies have given me a problem yet, though I haven't fought the nightmare or telepath. Even with a fully upgraded loadout, telepaths and technopaths sucked.
Neat, this guy makes nice stuff, and Prey is a rather good game.
My biggest issue with the game is how scarce everything is. The level design is really brilliant, and those little morphing typhon are so simple and clever, but the bigger enemies are bullet sinks in a game where bullets are really really scarce. I didn't want to end up collecting every single piece of loose scrap I could find and process it into bullets, so I just ended up running past 90% of enemies. Sure it's a legit strat, but it's really boring. The flipside to that is, once you manage to get a lot of bullets, the game becomes piss easy. They never manage to straddle the line in a satisfying way. Talos 1 is fantastic, but the actual encounters suck.

I was trying to focus more on the tech things, only taking a few Typhon powers (slapped the neuromod that introduces the Thyphon upgrades in my eye before the dialogue even triggered, MIMIC HO!). But near the end I just dumped into Typhon a lot because the ammo scarcity was really starting to become a problem. It's not impossible to have too much ammo, but you're probably going to dedicate to one gun to ensure you always make ammo for one thing rather than like 6.

Like, I would love to have had enough typhon juice/bullets to be able to zip around everywhere, controlling things with my mind, but I had to conserve typhon juice in order to bypass environmental areas, rather than combat. And again, once you *do* have enough stuff, the game is child's play.
I remember getting to the point that I got so burnt out on the game I just started blasting through the main story as fast as I could and they just kept dropping more shit on you and it got exhausting.
I still need to finish this game
I liked some of the stuff like creative use of your gadgets and powers allowing you to access certain areas earlier than you'd normally be able to, but the game as a whole just couldn't drag me in despite its best efforts. It puts markedly more effort into building a conceivably livable environment than Bioshock or System Shock 2 did, and yet I don't think it got me as immersed. I think it's mostly because of the difficulty and pacing. The story felt a little lopsided and weak on the emotional blows sometimes, but the big thing is that the game is just a joke if you have a vague grip on what you're doing. Do some thorough early exploration and recycle everything you don't need and even on nightmare you'll have such an absurd surplus of supplies for the rest of the game that death is a barely-conceivable threat unless something manages to instakill you.

Stealth in this game don't require you to actually crouch so all you gotta do is pull out a shotgun, sprint at the back of an enemy with the higher tier sprint upgrades which makes you virtually silent and just pop them once. Stronger enemies are also very easy with combat focus.

But doesn't your extremely specific solution directly contradict the "you can tackle challenges in a number of ways" angle that the game is going for?

But doesn't your extremely specific solution directly contradict the "you can tackle challenges in a number of ways" angle that the game is going for?
Not really. That's just one way of doing things. You could just as easily take on nearly everything in the game with only a fully upgraded shotgun, or upgrade your wrench strength and stealth stats and sneak up and whack typhons to death. Or, don't even use conventional weapons. Use typhon powers and blow enemies up with your mind. There's plenty of ways to tackle combat and, by that same token, plenty of ways to navigate your immediate surroundings and avoid/flank enemies. It just happens that the most direct way of doing head on combat with upgraded weapons is the easiest form of combat to get used to and is pretty OP from the get go.

So past the first hour, hour and a half, ammo wasn't an issue for me at all. Which is a shame because I really had fun with my options being limited to the stun-gun, gloo-gun and wrench in the earliest parts. By Psychotronics I was never dipping below 50 shotgun shells, 100+ 9mm and... enough stun-gun ammo, and towards the end of the game I was exceeding 150 and 300 respectively, with enough material to triple that. There's so much shit to recycle. I think an SS2-style maintenance mechanic, which demanded the investment of neuromods and further materials would've added substantial depth to both to Prey's "economy" and combat, while also making Typhon mods more attractive. It was planned if I'm not mistaken. I been over all this before, but compared to SS2 I found Prey's enemy designs extremely boring, except the mimics. The telepath with its mind-controlled humans was a cool idea but gameplay wise, offered very little challenge. Everything else is too easy a target and lacks variety in attack patterns and vulnerabilities - speaking of which, another thing SS2 has over Prey is management and economisation of ammo types.
