i love soulbrothahnumbuh3 he's a cool guy
The Wind Rises is my favorite Miyazaki film. It felt like it gave the perspective of a creative mind near perfectly.
I'm glad he mentioned Kiki's Delivery Service because that's probably my favorite Ghibli film.
Castle of Cagliostro remains my favorite Miyazaki film. I never liked Spirited Away.
Man, I need to watch Spirited Away again. It's been yeeeeeaaaars.
I wwatched several of his movies and I like Princess Monoke the most. However, I didn't even made it half-way through with My Neighbor Totoro.

As an adult I couldn't get very much through it either.

It was released simultaniously with Grave Of The Fireflies and shown as a double feature, with G.O.T.F. playing first, and if you've seen that movie you know people woulda needed some cheering up.

[editline]18th January 2015[/editline] Also i liked howl's moving castle, just because it breaks common film rules like he says doesn't mean it's a bad film.
I'm pretty sure the double feature thing was mistake you know cause they're both animated movies about young people by the same studio so they must be the same, right
i've read this post like ten times and i've got no clue what you're referring to.
I'm pretty sure the double feature thing was mistake you know cause they're both animated movies about young people by the same studio so they must be the same, right
no, they were shown as a double feature and as a result my neighbor totoro did not do as well as it should have due to grave of the fireflies being about homeless war orphans
I wasn't aware people thought Howl's moving castle was a bad movie. I thought it was great.
Wait people thought Howl's Moving Castle was a bad movie? I absolutely enjoyed it. My Neighbor Totoro felt far too short and Ponyo I didn't enjoy all that much.
Miyazaki films kick ass. They also have the best soundtracks thanks to Joe Hisaishi. Spirited Away was pretty good but Porco Rosso is still my favourite of all his films mainly because of the soundtrack that came with it. I mean just listen to this:
i noticed a lot of miyazaki movies also have tiny bits of social commentary what is pretty cool. [editline]18th January 2015[/editline] i didn't like howls moving castle but laputa is my jams.
i noticed a lot of miyazaki movies also have tiny bits of social commentary what is pretty cool.
A lot of his movies have that, especially a really strong pro-environment message. Specific movies like grave of the fireflies has a really strong anti-war message.
i notice if humans can be the bad guys in miyazaki movies they always will.
i notice if humans can be the bad guys in miyazaki movies they always will.
The thing about Miyazaki films is that the bad guys never actually stay bad. Miyazaki is pretty firm in sending a message that antagonists are often not "evil", just stuck in certain viewpoints that oppose the protagonist. Princess Mononoke is a good example of this.
I really really enjoyed laputa and mononoke was pretty good although I don't like it as much as most people. I really need to check out spirited away and grave of the fireflies.

I still need to get around to watching all Miyazaki's shit, though I find myself more drawn to Mamoru Oshii.
I haven't watched anything anime since I was like 12 watching Naruto, Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon and all that shit. My parents thought it was the anime that made me fucked up and weird and started scolding me whenever they caught me watching it, and I believed it and was pretty much terrified of anything anime ever since. Then I got into this whole "I hate anime its for socially awkward aspies that roleplay way too much" kind of mentality and pretty much ignored it ever since. Now I kind of want to watch that "Spirited Away" thing, seems like there might be some good anime out there after all. Is there any good anime that isn't about awkward dudes and superwomen whose immortal powers are contained in their tits, without the way too squeaky voices and as the dude in the video says: Characters with no relateable emotional register? (As in not giving a fuck about/enjoying all the weird shit)
Cromartie High School.
this and the ghost stories english dub are the only good anime

Nobody even mentions Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, huh? It's probably my favorite post-apoc setting ever because it actually feels feasible and not like some made up grimdark bullshit. [editline]18th January 2015[/editline] But yeah Miyazaki's stuff is what I would show people if I had to convince them not all anime is shit.
Miyazaki is great I think some Anime movies simply separate the genre, for example Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Cowboy Bepop, there is probably more of which I don't know but these are just simply different than anything run off the mill crap that people hate including myself.
