That looks really ugly
It looks very impractical
Quite impressive though
whew, good thing they fixed that conceptual mess with the actual release of Vista oh wait
Looked about as much as I'd expect from Microsoft in 2003. MS was never good with their visuals for a very long time. They got stuck in a rut for a while. Glad that never came about.
It's crazy how design have changed so much in 10 years. Back then it was all gloss and fancy 3D models and now it's pretty much complete opposite.

"Longhorn"
Everything looked so cluttered and the animations would have been obnoxious to sit through. That welcome screen was kind of neat, though.
Yeah haha, what a piece of shit right guys?
While it's cool looking despite being impractical, it makes me realize that Vista was basically a half-baked execution of the concepts seen here, either scrapped for time or because it would cause PCs of the time to spontaneously combust
Wooooah 3D!

We can't exactly get any more minimalistic Maybe we'll go back to bevels and 3D effects
I don't want to be entertained by an OS, I need it to work as fast and efficiently as possible. I wish they remade XP, that version was basic.
Try Windows 8
Yeah Windows 8 gets a lot of hate but I enjoy using it. They're even putting the regular start menu in again which should've been there from the start but still.
Try Windows 8
He is right. Windows 8 isn't that bad. It just takes time to get used to the new menu and shit. Even if you don't want to use the menu IO Bit has a free program that will give you a Win 7 style start menu.
Yeah Windows 8 gets a lot of hate but I enjoy using it. "oh shit guys os x has pretty animations quick make pretty animations"
I actually like it, but the animations took way too long and I know I'd get frustrated with it quickly.
a lot of the things we take for granted now, like eliminating search entries as we type, was innovative as hell back then and paved major ground for us now to further refine I don't know about you guys but when I think 10+ years ago, I think this is pretty god damn cool
I completely forgot about the gadget sidebar in Vista. That was the Metro of its time
I completely forgot about the gadget sidebar in Vista. That was the Metro of its time
Except you could disable it if you wanted to
Surprised I didn't make this thread. :v: Also Longhorn in 04 was better than that 03 concept.
You can see that it still had a lot of similarities in design to XP, it was before they fully got the idea of what they wanted the Aero style to look like.
I don't understand this new art style that all operating systems seem to be adopting -- this flat colorless and very little reflection art style. I know they're trying to get it to come off as ~simple~ but it can really make shit look like a fucking coloring book.

I like to mark the shifts in graphic design styles with Pepsi logos. [t]http://hdwallpapersrc.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Best-Pepsi-Logo.png[/t] It all started with fancy calligraphy, then it got simpled down to a minimalist look in the mid-70s, and once computers started to rise, everyone started putting as much computer-generated graphic work as possible, and now we're heading back down to a laissez-faire approach. I certainly like the current Pepsi logo more than the 2003 one, although I can't say the same about Microsoft.
whats the opposite of skeuomorphism? this is probably listed as that definition

That means very little flair, very little shock and awe, just simple colour schemes with simple shapes. Important bits of information put to the foreground in bigger, more readable fonts with less important information either under it in smaller fonts or at most one click away. It's a massive improvement in UI design from a usability perspective, and minimalist design actually looks like something someone could be proud of compared to whatever the fuck XP and Longhorn were trying.
I like it. Wouldn't mind some custome theme or something for win7 based on that.
why did that have to use that one song i thought i had forgotten about it.
