When I saw that sped up clown running in a preview at the theater I almost broke out laughing. I'm glad they kept showing that clip.
"Frustrating" was exactly the word I was thinking coming out of It. It's a hard movie to hate because of how fun the non-horror parts are, but good god did it go through multiple moron passes before it reached the stage it released in. I honestly don't know if I should be happy that the box office success will mean more big horror movies like It or afraid that it will mean more big dumb horror movies like It.
I started to watch all the Half in the Bad episodes last week (gotta follow the deep Plinkett and VHS repair lore) and holy shit I just realized how many hours i still gotta go :dead:
Anyway, looking forward to finally see this in 6 months when i'm done watching it all.
Good to see that Mike and Jay agree with me that the original It just isn't that good.
Seriously, I don't quite get why people have such an attachment to this beyond nostalgia. It completely fails as a horror movie and of course the reveal at the end is just awful.

Like they mentioned, i figured they only love it because of Tim Curry

I think it's because it was a decent horror movie for tv at that time, even had some things to freak people out like a decapitated head on prime time television.
Last time I watched IT I found it to be decent and if you didn't grow up watching tv programs of that time like soap operas or tv movies, the story telling wouldn't sit well as we've had tv shows with cinema quality. Heck twin peaks season 3 made fun of the formula of story telling now like it did in the 90s.
Then I think the statement of people liking IT because of Tim Curry is over rated as I believe Tim Curry's cult status truly blossomed in the late 90s to early 2000s with people discovering movies like IT and Rocky Horror Picture show for the first time when knowing him as the voice actor for X or the villain from movie Y.

The movie is great with the romantic tension

Most of us have seen this movie as a kid and that shit was terrifying back then.
I don't remember the movie being that horrible but after they've showed those scenes, I was like "what the fuck?".
I think I can actually recall why the monster in IT[sp]always went away without doing anything to the children.[/sp]
Apparently,[sp]the more frightened you are of the monster, the better you taste to him. So in a sense, he's fattening you up.[/sp]Probably not the best reason, but at least it's a reason. v:v:v
What the fuck, was I the only person in the entire world who didn't know the book featured an underage gangbang? I also read the entire book's plot on wikipedia a few years back. Did my brain suppress the memory to protect me?

Don't forget Bev's dad constantly checking her to see if she's "intact"
Probably the only half in the bag I've found myself disagreeing with. I personally never found the 'scare' scenes to be jumpy at all. I don't recall any loud scenes except for one: [sp]the garage scene.[/sp] And I found it kind of unfair for RLM to diss on It not immediately eating the kids. It does that occasionally (i.e. Georgie), but by no means does It not have a motivation for delaying his/her kills. It's explained pretty clearly that It feeds on fear, not just meat.

It's also has great comedic timing, the perfect romcom for all ages!

Tim Curry was so good in It that he's literally the only reason it's not only remembered, but a beloved movie.
I miss Tim Curry's acting years, i feel bad that he had that stroke. I've seen recent interviews and he's still wonderful to watch.

Logical explanation =/= Good horror.
Logical explanation =/= Good horror.
Well, it's a logical explanation, and I never found myself thinking it wasn't good horror. It's horror with great character development and a lot of humor (even during 'horrific' moments). I found it to be a fantastic movie all-around.

and don't forget the psychotic baby-strangler kid who publicly gives the bully a handjob and asks to suck his cock while noting how huge his erection is

Doesn't explain why it keeps doing that even when it's own life is in danger though. But that's not the biggest problem for me. Like, [sp]a galactic supernatural entity billions years old that can actually be beaten by a bunch of regular kids wielding some metal sticks[/sp]? I mean, maybe this obvious issue is addressed in the book, but I think it could've been much better if the monster was just some sort of a local creature with all the same abilities to morph into anything and so on, but without it's dumb background.

[sp]if it feeds on fear, and a bunch of kids with sticks aren't scared of him, it can't feed
notice how it spends most of the movie striking people individually? it purposely tries to avoid group encounters because the power of group mentality can easily get rid of fear with a strong enough bond, and that's exactly what happens
not to mention It isn't exactly defeated, he still comes back 27 years later which is what "chapter 2" deals with[/sp]

Stephen King has fucked up sex stuff in his books, like in Gunslinger when [sp]Roland sticks his gun barrel up a fat lady's cunt to give her an abortion[/sp]
Or in The Stand when [sp]a midget wakes up the main character by rubbing his boner on his thigh and demanding he jerk him off, then works his gun's barrel up his ass as a threat.[/sp]
Or in The Library Policeman with its [sp]four-page gruesomely-detailed description of a big dicked guy anally raping a little boy.[/sp]
Or how about in Apt Pupil, where a young boy finds a living Nazi war criminal in his town, and wants to learn about Holocaust shit, so the old man tells him and it fucks his brain up. For example, [sp] The book describes the boy's first wet dream, where he is part of a medical experiment on an underage jewish girl, and the old man gives him an electroshock condom and he rapes the girl senseless while she screams.[/sp]
Stephen King has issues.

I've read the book when I was 13 or something, I also don't remember

[sp]Yeah, it can't feed, but it's still a super fast shapeshifting monster with claws and whatnot. Even if they don't fear it, it doesn't mean it can't just tear them to pieces within seconds instead of performing some weird dance like it does in the end of the new movie while "fighting" the kids. The only reason they eventually manage to throw it down the well is because it constantly lets them go, even when it's obvious they are there for it's head. I mean, I'm not nitpicking, it's a decent movie, but still.[/sp]
I think this is movie won't get a porn parody.
edit: And that's good.

Did he just put all his weird shit into this one book? I've read a lot of Stephen King books and they don't have this kind of shit.

Wish I did. I can never finish writing a complete manuscript more than 30 pages long.
