At which point does a firecracker become a high explosive?

When it starts leaving a crater
That's an incendiary bomb!
I want one!!

iirc there's a difference in how they explode. firecrackers and flash powder burn slower than high explosives such as dynamite, so they don't create a detonation shockwave. that's also why you see a bunch of sparks and shit, because the flash powder is still burning. if it were a high explosive, it wouldn't have that effect.

wat if it was packed in the size of a steel drum barrel
wat if it was packed in the size of a steel drum barrel
it has less to do with what it is packed in and more what the material is. it would probably blow the shit out of the barrel and throw shrapnel everywhere but it wouldn't have the same concussive force
That was actually pretty fucking sweet :v:
people in the video are such jackasses though. the guy planting the thing wants to wait for the cars to get by and the others just call him a pussy and write it off as 'tough luck' for the driver. It's people like this that piss me off at new years', I mean how hard is it to just go to the outskirts or at least OFF THE FUCKING ROAD. Not to mention that the sparkling particles leave nasty scorch marks in the paint or burn right into it, essentiually keying all the parked cars.
I just don't get why people do this shit, this year, I saw people throw fireworks at parked cars, put them on busy roads and always say shit like 'well if you drive on new years eve it's your own fault'.

Because people are dicks or stupid, or both
That looked more like a "Polenböller", which is basically an illegal firecracker with a fuckton of explosives in it. There's stories of people losing limbs thanks to those almost every new year here in germany.
i don't know how those things are called in english, but here we call them mortars. isn't the first explosion for shooting it into the air?
i don't know how those things are called in english, but here we call them mortars. isn't the first explosion for shooting it into the air?
we call those fireworks, they launch up into the air and explode into pretty colours and such
firecrackers are just tiny little things you set off and they make a loud bang, the way they're made can be scaled up to sizes like shown in the video
This year I got my first polnish/italian "handgrenades". Never had so much fun with firecrackers.
The german explosives is wasted money. The explosions are so hard its like a punch in the stomach.
Orgasmisc. Don´t buy german stuff buy the polan stuff its worth it.
And there is no need to worry about. All the big firecrackers have very long(!) fuses and some sprinkler effects some seconds before explosion. So there is much time to take distance.
The media just tells propaganda. Polnish firecrackers are safe like the german ones, they don´t explode in the hand like the media tells you. Of course you have to run away. Only idiots get they hand blown of.
The differnce is the amount of explosive substance.
That's not a firecracker, it's a 5" display shell. It's a lot easier to get your hands on display fireworks in Europe than America. In America you need to have a Type 54 Explosive License from the ATF, or work for a company that does firework displays. Owning a 1.3G (display firework) in America without a license is a felony and can get you in some deep shit.
The spark coverage was hilariously mind boggling.

That's just a large shell on the ground. You can see the lift charge that is supposed to fire it out of the tube and then it explodes a few seconds later. That's not flash powder burning, it's white stars for the effect.
reminds me of the slovak space program
