i'm so disappointed
Look at doom 3 and now look at this shit
Looks like they took the boring aesthetic of doom 3 and matched it with mindless uninteresting shooting. Looks like a Doom 3 mod that cut out the horror elements.
Still looks like it can be salvaged if they work on it.
What did I just watch? A ton of long range shotgunning, some bodies being ripped open. What, thats it?

So you think a slow rip-off of System Shock 2 that has almost nothing to do with the rest of the series, you think that's better than something that actually sticks to the source material?
This has fast-paced gameplay, more of an emphasis on Hell, and a shit-ton of gore.
It's more of a Doom game than 3 ever was.
Brutal Halo.
The fuck did they show at quake-con? all my steam-buds who went there during the closed-door preview said it looked like Doom on steriods, and everything was real fast.
Looks okay, suspiciously looks very pre-rendered in a lot of parts however.
I'm glad that they've given up on the survival horror shtick of DOOM3, but at the same time I feel like they're still too hesitant to part with its art style. They've distanced themselves from the original dooms artsyle for a sort of generic looking futuristic one that doesn't really fit the tone of demons invading the base. The finisher animations just don't flow very well and look too snap-to, and in my opinion if they can't make them work they should just remove them. The weapons sound direction is also a bit sub-par, and makes them feel like their doing less damage than they are, and it makes the demons seem weak when they go down to them.
Wow this looks pretty awful

the shotgun from doom1&2 was long range, the super shotgun on the other hand (which is the double barrel that is also in the game) was excellent at close range.
i'm seeing some mixed signals in the reception to gameplay demo #1 and gameplay demo #2
The art direction is kinda meh but it looks like fun to me, it looks and feels like doom, idk what you guys were expecting. The second gameplay showcase is a lot faster and has more shit going on in it, the player in this demo was obviously taking his time so everyone got to see all the things.

This was an E3 reveal. They've gotta play slow and try to appeal to a wider audience, and show stuff off.
I doubt it'll really be that slow.
what i'm wondering about is the soundtrack. me personally i used to love playing DOOM 1/2 with the Project DOOM wad (remixes the games tracks to be heavier/more metal and way faster than the original) in contrast to the original which was darker and more suspenseful
i wonder what they're gonna go for in this one, either way would be good as long as it's pulled off correctly
I dunno, I liked Doom 3 and I would have been totally fine with a new one looking and playing exactly like it. I liked the story too.

not a generic corridor shooter. it resembles a Halo game with some Doom gimmicks in it
i mean is there something i'm not seeing here? my standards aren't too high but to me it looks incredibly bland. not digging the art direction either
so i still dont get it why did they abandon the brutal, edgy, speed metal, fuck you thing they had going with the first two
[editline]14th June 2015[/editline]
was it because columbine?
well I guess demo #2 had more of that
also it looks like they just completely did away with that tense horror aspect of doom 3. everything is so out in the open
it's like they give you these brief moments of what looks like could be a great game and then it just jumps into genericness
[editline]d[/editline]
those scenes of him walking through those tight hallways in between the combat are what the game should be. intimate
are you guys fucking kidding?
did i see the same video?
is this real life?
i fucking loved it, what are you even talking about.
I don't get where everyone is getting the whole corridor shooter thing from. The entirety of the first demo basically took place in two giant rooms.

different tastes i guess? it seems like this, in my opinion, is regressing back to the old dooms. i really liked the way doom 3 was taking the series

I can dig what you're putting down, but that sounds more like D3 to me than 1 and 2. D3 was (or tried to be, how successful it was depends on who you ask and I'm on the fence) about those tight hallways and intimate tension, and while the classic games were tense and had the fear of overwhelm and ambush packed tightly into their 2.5D little levels, enemy encounters happened pretty much around the same as what went down in the gameplay reveals we've seen, and most folks these days remember Doom for the action.
Edit:
Ah, I see you be a fan of D3. Well, in that case, looks like you might be shit out of luck in terms of gameplay direction unless they're holding back on the scary. This Doom is 1/2 all the way, nonstop.

yeah, it seemed like that's what they're aiming for. i assumed they would be picking up Doom 3's style, was really looking forward to that
i thought that's what the game devs' original intent for the gameplay would be once the tech got better
That FOV though.

Same. Comments such as these are why gamers are considered whiny and self-entitled.
They don't need to redo Doom II, just go back and play the old one, for fuck's sake.
THIS game, to me, is what Doom would look like if it was released today, a great mix between fast-paced shooting and MK fatalities thrown in between. I'm deeply satisfied.

Hell, if people paid enough attention would have noticed the remastered E1M1 track, yet I'm reading people whining about the music being "lackluster".
Kids these days...
Obviously the player went slow to show off everything, but it really needed a fast paced part where you're just flying everywhere going to town on demons. You can see how fast it goes when they show off the multiplayer segments, but it needs to be central to single player gameplay as well.
why do you all hate this
it looks so much more like doom 1.
fast paced, violent, action, more enemies.
the only thing that's not so great is the level design, it's kinda just big open rooms that all look the same
so hopefully that's just been stitched together for this gameplay demo?
