Why are people rating this disagree?
This video was uploaded to youtube 25th of July 2016.
According to https://discordia.me/nitro Nitro came out at the barest minimum Dec 22nd 2016 and fully Jan 23rd 2017.
The video came out well before Nitro.
okay, then how is this video in any way relevant? It's just a bunch of obscenely out of date scare mongering bullshit.

So the video is no longer relevant
Oh no! Discord has logs of me playing video games, bullshitting with my friends, linking YouTube videos[sp]and maybe a dick pic >_>[/sp]WHAT EVER WILL I DO
What a useless thing to have posted lmao
discount cr1tikal kind of annoys me
Why you should use Discord
It's free, it's good and the devs are cool.
No fucking shit it's collected, the only way Discord can do what it does is by doing it serverside. Mostly every other free voip program except for ones that require you to set up your own server does the same thing.
Just use mumble. Same cpu usage as notepad and it doesn't force you on a specific server.
I'm surprised that no one mention how low the volume is, it's almost as low as those jumpscare videos but without the jumpscare.
I hope he doesn't use any social media, anything google, a computer or a smartphone if he's this concerned about people selling his info
of all things I'd be least concerned about discord stealing my information (oh no they can see my shitty memes and random chit chat with people).
free program collects data you willingly send to their servers or willingly give them access to by connecting to sns
I don't think discord nitro magically invalidates the video, and the idea of raising awareness of what exactly you're giving to people by using discord is a good idea for getting people aware of their privacy. But at the same time discord runs everything through their servers, and as they aren't attempting to advertise themselves to people looking to stay off the grid, it's reasonable that they'd keep logs of anything in case they need to present evidence in a case where their servers might be involved. This is something that's going to happen with anything not hosted on your own computer, whether they tell you they will or not.
So like people have already said, if you want privacy host something like mumble on your pc. If you want to eschew privacy for convenience, then discord beats skype imo.

Fallacy. Do you really expect him to go the full Richard Stallman route before taking him seriously?

There is no requirement for discord to store or 'collect' anything, they choose to. It has its benefits, as allowing us to see images and messages from months ago, but they don't have to do this just because its server side.

I wouldn't hold Skype and Discord in the same eye for anything except reliability. Skype allows you to have friends connect to the same call, with no special privileges to anyone but the host of that call and the owner of the skype group for removing members. Discord allows for massive communities to be formed and sub groups to be made with in a community by having different channels and chatrooms. It also has administration with hierarchy and that with permissions roles, ranks, bots and other features that a small group of friends may get troubled with. Discord itself is able to entertain people on its own without anyone having to be there, skype isn't able to do this.
Which is why I believe a small group of friends would have a better time on Skype if it were more reliable.
Discord is the best thing to happen to VoIP in years.
If they were secretly downloading my C:/ drive and I still wouldn't go back to teamspeak/mumble/skype :v:
Blowing your run-of-the-mill service privacy concern out of proportion and making absurd video titles telling people to "stop using discord because privacy" is just a grab at getting video views and ad revenue.
Also, making a video telling people to stop using a free service because it's tracking you only to post it on YouTube makes this humerously ironic.

It's a required irony otherwise he'd be preaching to a echo chamber.
As soon as I saw the word "privacy" I realized this is just scaremongering or someone with a tinfoil hat and switched off the video.

I think discord's servers are pretty good at mimicking a skype group, just invite a bunch of people and dont bother with roles. whoever made it can kick/add people, and you dont have to constantly call the entire group at once without making a new one.

This is basically the 'nothing to hide' argument tho'
I like Discord, I've been using it for a while and I don't think I intend to stop anytime soon. However, their privacy policy always felt a bit off.
For example:
Aggregated Information: In an ongoing effort to better understand and serve the users of the Services, we may conduct research on our customer demographics, interests and behavior based on the information collected. This research may be compiled and analyzed on an aggregate basis, and we may share this aggregate data with our affiliates, agents and business partners. We may also disclose aggregated user statistics in order to describe our services to current and prospective business partners, and to other third parties for other lawful purposes.
It starts off fine, but gets a bit fishy fast. I see this often in privacy statements, and it just rubs me the wrong way. They don't really explain what's collected, and even though it's claimed to be used to better understand their users, the data "may" be shared with "affiliates, agents and business partners". Curiously this clause also doesn't mention that the information is non-identifiable. What does it take to become an affiliate or business partner with Discord? Is money exchanged? If so, then couldn't this just be legalese for "Yeah we do collect and sell your information" but it's worded in a reassuring manner? Perhaps someone with a better understanding of both English and legalese could explain it to me.
This is basically the 'nothing to hide' argument tho'
Yes, but its not like you're letting random strangers inside your house, going through your receipts and documents, computer, and browsing history just because you have nothing to hide.
Its going to be things pertaining to discord and the things you can do within it.
This is basically the 'nothing to hide' argument tho'
and what's wrong with that? the 'privacy on principle' argument only applies to intrusive surveillance. 'nothing to hide' doesn't work for intrusive government surveillance because people have to right to privacy in their own homes, but if you willingly use a centralized server-based chat program then you forfeit your right to complete privacy
refusing to use it because of privacy issues is as stupid as never entering any store that has a video camera. are you going to get mad that they caught you scratching your ass on tape?
if you're doing shady shit you shouldn't be using discord to do it anyway
it's not open source software
I mean, the video is likely correct in that discord may be selling info to advertisers.
However, it is likely no worse than facebook (likely better) in terms of what is shared and how.

No worse than (insert many names of big companies here), they all pretty much do it these days, but I'm yet to find a person who has been affected negatively by this

This is a fair point, however from what I have seen this doesn't happen. But that's their fault not discords I would guess
