I find this prospect utterly futile considering the fact that what we might consider a structured signal might as well be noise for whatever is out there, if it is even capable of reading it. You can't expect anything remotely resembling human features, mental processes or the like at all in an extraterrestrial lifeform.
Being a huge science fiction fan I wish and wish and wish again for first contact to happen, but it is a wish sort of in the same category as my dreams of growing wings and flying or winning Eurolotto, finding the one, etc.
