Wow, she's just as ugly as her writing is horrible.
She literally wrote the book on being a self obsessed teenage brat, which is not something that seems intent on dying out any time soon.
Which reminds me, I still need to read one of those books.
Her ideas she presented in her books were pretty.. Interesting to say the least. She is one of those, "Take some, leave some" sort of people in regards to her writing. Where some ideas made sense, but others seemed just plain stupid. Following any one person and taking all their beliefs/ideologies blindly is a terrible idea to begin with anyways, no matter the person.

The ability to 'justify' selfishness will always be popular with societies bastards.
Anyone who adopts Ayn Rand's philosophy is someone you should avoid. Anyone who refuses to read Ayn Rand because they disagree with her philosophy is also someone you should avoid, because it's important to know exactly why people like Ted Cruz are composed of 90% asshole.

I don't know if there's more than one speech in that book but the one I read was really fucking long.
It's nice to know her mindset from her writing, but I wouldn't really suggest reading more than one of her pieces. I say this because her work is stupid dry and annoying to read.
i liked the fountainhead and anthem someone above summed it up really well, "take some, leave some". obviously don't follow the book like a bible but yea i enjoyed reading them as novels actually no i take that back, the entire latter third of the fountainhead was a pain to read but the rest was enjoyable
But her writing is such an absolute chore to read.
The only one I ever read all the way through was Anthem. It was only ok because I like futuristic sciencey apocalypse books.

At least the critique of politicians funneling public fund money into their own pockets under the pretense of "the greater good" is hopefully still a thing.
I decided to make a presentation about Ayn Rand because 1) no one here in Belgium knows who she is, 2) the teacher is kind of a feminist prick but she trusts me enough to make a surprise presentation about a woman she's never heard about and assumes is a good person. Yeah, she's in for a surprise. I started reading Atlas Shrugged and I actually think it's a decent book. I like the characters, the universe, etc. But yeah, the philosophy is quite bad. I have to ask, if I had to justify choosing Ayn Rand as topic of my presentation, what can I say? What good did she bring to the world, in your opinion?
But her writing is such an absolute chore to read.
Well that's a completely different reason to not read it than disagreeing with her philosophy.

The guy who started LaVeyan Satanism admitted to taking ideas from Ayn Rand Ayn Rand is literally so evil that she can actually be compared to Satan
Which reminds me, I still need to read one of those books.
If you insist, read Anthem. It's nothing truly amazing but it's also not complete shit unlike Atlas Shrugged. It's also surprisingly short, if you've ever seen a copy of Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead.
wow I didn't even know this account was on here; godspeed xkcd
I heard the bot reads the entire forum and waits for opportunities to post relevant xkcd comics. It's surprising that it doesn't happen more often, since xkcd is always relevant.
I heard the bot reads the entire forum and waits for opportunities to post relevant xkcd comics. So it only posts when there is a discussion on ayn rand or atlas shrugged.
thats because its the creation of DrDevil =/
Why is she still a thing? Because 14 year olds will always be 14.
I have to ask, if I had to justify choosing Ayn Rand as topic of my presentation, what can I say? What good did she bring to the world, in your opinion?
She partially inspired BioShock.

my first exposure was when I used to play BZFlag and some mappers would have large images of atlas shrugged and "Who is John Galt" all over the maps
