Colbert always pokes holes at his guest. The fact that all he had was praise and positive words for Putin is very much a good reason for Colbert to push that on him. The guy couldn't give not even 1 criticism. That isn't normal, especially for a journalist unless you have an agenda. The way he talked about Putin was creepy, almost like a servant does of a king in a movie.

How would Oliver Stone have known that the instant he watched that video? Is he supposed to have every war video memorized before going in to his interviews? B. What's he supposed to do if he does recognize bullshit? Directly contradict Vladimir Putin in his own palace, in his own country, and tell him he's full of shit? I saw this clip when it first came out and I was on the verge of making a thread but didn't bother with it. I think Colbert was very rude and self-righteous and I really felt for Stone when he asked the audience "why are you laughing?". I understand Putin is a corrupt ruler and Russia is the bad guy on the world stage, but Oliver Stone was totally disrespected in this interview for no reason other than failing to totally demonize Putin and Russia after having formed something of a personal relationship with the man over the course of 2 years (?). Colbert has really been slipping since he left the Report, he was a lot funnier as a character than as a playing-it-straight snarky liberal who needs to appeal to the masses of late night talk shows.

he didn't concede a single thing, not one. colbert was in the right to hold him accountable instead of being a pushover like oliver, or even like yourself, tudd
He could not put it in his documentary
I don't have Showtime so I haven't seen any of it yet, but I think that clip is still worth showing because now it's allowed everyone to catch Putin lying. It would have been better if Stone had caught it and mentioned it in the voiceover, but I don't think that slip-up is enough to shit on him for, that seems like a mistake anyone could make.
Putin is ex-KGB. To think he can't lie to your face with absolute conviction is kinda stupid. Oliver Stone, in my opinion, has fallen prey to his bullshit.
Oliver Stone was totally disrespected in this interview for no reason other than failing to totally demonize Putin
Get out of here with this blatant bullshit He did not concede on a single. fucking. criticism. not one. COMPLETELY unable to compromise or do anything but suck some mad russian dick. And you frame this as "failing to demonize"? Seriously? Is accountability some sort of alien concept to you? A ruthlessly corrupt, transparently despotic, horribly oppressive leader gets nothing but praise and anything less is demonization? You're out of your damn mind

I'm not sure why I had such a different impression the first time around but no, you guys are definitely right. The first time around I had the impression that he was just trying to be neutral and "fair" but when he calls him a "social conservative" in response to Stephen's list of offenses it's pretty obvious he's really just closeted pro-Russia masquerading as neutral. I'm honestly embarrassed by my first post now lol [editline]24th June 2017[/editline] I should clarify, rewatching for the first time since I saw it first when it was posted on YouTube.
It gets really transparent once Colbert gives him that opening to say something, and he dodges it like the devil, then instantly segues onto more praise. I don't know if this was about a tough guy complex, trying to stand his ground and not look "weak" for conceding at that time, but it just comes off like he's seriously bought into the propaganda
Jesus christ those dislikes and comments, the russophiles really came out of the woodwork. Colbert did the right thing, Stone is a scumbag. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/oliver-stone-ukraines-revolution-was-cia-plot-1481412
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/oliver-stone-ukraines-revolution-was-cia-plot-1481412
? Weren't Svoboda pretty active during the protests/riots?

You're out of your damn mind
Honestly, Steven hit the nail on the head when he asked if Putin had his "dog in a cage somewhere", because all of his body language resembled a man backed into a corner. Every human has something you could criticize about them, and he obviously had plenty to say but couldn't say any of it
Anyone here actually watched the documentary? I did, it was alright, but honestly not that special. There were a few interesting revelations here and there, but I felt Stone went rather soft with the questions until the last episode. Although you have to imagine that when someone agrees for following him for two years, you have to constrain yourself to certain extent, otherwise the whole deal might go out the window after a few months, and you miss out on any chances of asking him questions post-US elections. I felt bad for Stone here though, the whole segment was just played as to make fun of him, even Colbert admits he hasnt seen it. I mean, he really did follow up on the election question in the 4th episode.
Oliver Stone is a fucking hack that defended Hugo Chavez at his worst and got rich off Venezuelan money, he deserves every bit of shit he gets his way.
? Weren't Svoboda pretty active during the protests/riots?
I like how you ignored the fact that Oliver Stone said that Euromaidan was a CIA plot. Euromaidan was full of people from different sides of the political spectrum, calling it a "neo-nazi coup" is beyond stupid.

It doesn't look like he's got anything to back up that part though, it sounds like more RT style bullshit. Groundless but not ludicrous. It's just the article kind of implies extremists weren't involved in Kiev.
