Agree with most of what he said till the 8:27 mark, rest went down the shitter for me.
What Pewdiepie did was horrible. Truly horrible. Blacked out because it is truly despicable. [sp]Encouraging people to subscribe to KEEMSTAR is just a crime against humanity. Why isn't this guy locked up in jail already?? [/sp]
Fucking hell, half of this video is completely pointless. Jim makes good points but his presentation switches between meh and total fucking dogshite.
Got to capitalize on that drama while it's hot.
Got to capitalize on that drama while it's hot.
the revolving door of YouTube drama
the revolving door of YouTube drama
I'd say it's more like an ever growing freeway of drama as there aren't truly any conflicts without origins.
I can see where he is going with PewDiePie as his actions may have consequences which may make matters worse in YouTube's already current bad state where it comes to ads and such. Being the "face of YouTube" has it's responsibilities.

I with Jim on this. Having a large fanbase is only going to allow you to get away with being a cunt for so long. Large portions of society, including the law, are still trying to figure out how to deal with youtube and the internet in general. The more these huge internet personalities act like insensitive or duplicitous twats, the stronger a position they give to those who want heavy regulation.
I can see where he is going with PewDiePie as his actions may have consequences which may make matters worse in YouTube's already current bad state where it comes to ads and such. Being the "face of YouTube" has it's responsibilities.
At the same time he's acting like Pewdiepie is some kind of evil rogue maverick who's ruining the fun for everybody, like Pewdiepie is somehow singlehandedly responsible for google popping a gasket (one of many gaskets that have been popped over the years). Not to mention the fact he's basically making an exception to his usual rhetoric about how DMCA strikes for opinions are objectively awful reprehensible trash just to take potshots at a guy because he feels like Felix is personally responsible for Google deciding swear words are too much to bear for the ad industry. Oh and his WWE comparison is dumb considering this happened this very same year And the world didn't end as a result. WWE wasn't pleased with a guest saying nigger on live TV, some viewers weren't happy with a show whose audience has a large portion of kids airing some douchebag saying nigger on live TV, so they issued an apology and moved on. It's not nearly as big a deal as he pretends it is, even by his own examples.
Honestly Jim should stick to a more serious tone with his videos, because when his video is about him being sarcastic through the entire thing it just drags much longer than it should and I just end not adsorbing any of his actual points/clicking to another video. Sarcasm can be funny, but you can't make an entire video out of it unless you're really really good at it, which imo Jim isn't

His weird-ass skits that are absolutely unfunny to me and his cringy unrelated improv monologues I can deal with, I just skip them - I can't skip the parts where he makes his point though
I just flat out can't take the guy seriously when he stands at his podium with the whole getup.
He should let this "character" of his die. It's just become an absolute cringe-fest watching him now... especially once you realize that most of his rants are about maybe 3-4 different issues, over and over and over. I used to kinda enjoy his videos (most of 'em), but now the second I hear that cocky, sarcastic voice, I want to smash something.

I typically like Jim's persona in these videos because the snarky attitude often helps counterbalance the fact he talks about disgusting people and disgusting companies doing disgusting things. The over the top editing with an over the top host definitely helps ease the fact that he's practically talking about how the industry as a whole is getting mutilated by these people. And, usually, he manages to be rather consistent in his stance on things. This is one of the rare occasions where he just shits the bed by rushing a video ahead and causing his entire consistency on a couple of different issues to plummet. Jim's position on youtubers and their content is often bordering on victim-blaming in certain instances and often delves outright into shortsightedness in others. For someone who's spent this long fighting against spurious DMCA claims, someone who's entire career on youtube is built on playing up the role of a caustic asshole for laughs, it's absurd to see him not only support DMCA claims against Pewdiepie but outright blame Pewdiepie for... playing up the role of a caustic asshole for laughs. And he uses this dumb, false equivalence fallacy wherein because "old fashioned" media celebrities aren't allowed to do certain things in a highly publicized environment, celebrities on a completely different medium which works on a very different basis should apply to the exact same standard despite effectively displaying themselves far more often and thus being more subject to goofs and fuckups. Not to mention the fact people like Pewdiepie are comedians meaning what they do to humor the audience is up to them, and they should not be judged on a personal level for things done for the sake of entertainment. Jim's an entertainer, sure, but he's primarily a journalist and it's obvious that this is where his sensibilities lie: despite being into a range of humor which evidently is quite divisive in its own right, he does not understand the most basic aspect of dissociating a man from his work.
The persona is part of the appeal, otherwise he'd just be another guy talking about videogames on youtube. Like it or not it allowed him to stand out. I can tolerate Jim Sterling but can't watch more than a few second of Angry Joe. Different strokes for different folks.
Pewdiepie is a master of manipulating the site to his benefit. I really wouldn't be surprised if he did this on purpose knowing it'll draw attention to him, he knows he's losing relevancy in the current era and is trying anything to keep going.
Can people really not comprehend that someone could just say nigger randomly outloud out of frustration?
Not with Pewdiepie not really. There's a reason this is a big story, no big streamer is that clumsy to spurt out the word nigger as a insult, especially ones who have been in trouble in the past. Pewdiepie isn't stupid. He knows he was on thin ice and he's never used the word as a insult before on stream. He knows how divided the internet is right now and how controversial news gives him coverage which keeps him relevant. Pewdiepie himself admitted he never held himself above drama. There is a reason he's leagues above anyone else in sub views, the dude knows what he's doing. Not saying I'm 100% sure, but it really wouldn't surprise me.
I think you're giving him a little too much credit, he lost a gig with Disney over that "Death to all Jews" thing and I bet you he wasn't happy about that. Like yes this is all getting overblown but this will still lead to more people out there calling him racist which even if it isn't true, is still bad for him in the long run.

Dude got lucky. He admitted he got lucky. Very early in his career before he was known he said he'd hate to just become an annoying shrieking manchild for views and that's what he became, so he became increasingly unhappy until he just dropped the act and decided to just do whatever the fuck he wanted, which is where he's at now. He even acknowledges how he was basically being a virtual surrogate friend to insecure teenagers for a while due to how he would just constantly fake the same whacky attitude.
whats with all of this about pewdiepie being some sort of manipulator master overlord of youtube thats stuff people draw fanart of as a joke lol
the first part of the vdieo was just annoying, but he was on point about the pewdiepie controversy. Pewdiepie has to be really careful about what he says, he's helping the people who want to kill new media when he says stuff like this.
The old media. The adpocalypse was started by a washington journal reporter.
The WSJ just reported what pewdiepie did and said and clarified that he rejects racial hatred and claims that his videos are comedy. They also don't count as old media these days. Pewdiepie wasn't really tied to the adpocalypse anyhow. The adpocalypse was part of a larger controversy about advertisements showing up on honest-to-god hate videos. It wasn't driven by old media, advertisers, like pepsi for example, got angry that youtube was putting their ads on fascist, gore, etc. videos and so they began to pull out rapidly. And then that caused youtube to change their website and how monetization works in a less than elegant manner.
i thought the wsj reporter got advertisers to do something about the incident, might be wrong though.
They asked Disney and Youtube for comment. That's pretty much all they did directly. Youtube dropped a show they were making with pewdiepie and removed him from some affiliate program, and disney cut ties with him. They did that on their own after the news of what kind of jokes he was telling went viral.
