A fair bit of semi-professional racers & tuners actually use that (or similar) when fitting a front-lip on the cheap.
Some types are even very flexible yet durable enough so it doesn't get damaged so easily.

its cheap and effective. lots of low buck race cars use it for a front lip, but it's not seen much on big dollar builds like this. I think they were going for a tuner wagon look but the fact that they used an suv instead of a wagon ruined it
