Getting hit with one of those polearms must really ring your bell, looks like an almost guaranteed concussion.
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
Yeah I kinda wanted to see the 5v5 in the video, maybe it would have been less of a clusterfuck.
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
Aye. I was expecting decapitations and grievous maiming. Disappointing
I wonder how many of them get injured?
This looks brutal, dangerous, and unenjoyable to be a part of. It was even kinda boring to watch...
I wonder how many of them get injured?
Most of them suffer concussions of some sort, but for the most part are unscathed thanks to the armor and blunted weapons.
So basically a real life Dark Souls fight club. :v:

It's so ridiculous that it's hard to even take seriously.
the brits should had brought more longbows
so it's like team-based wrestling in suits of armor with bladed weapons
This just goes to show how well medieval armor was built. The blades might be dull, but that could still really hurt you if you weren't protected. Imagine one of those halberds or axes hitting you in the face full speed without a helmet, a small concussion probably wouldn't be too bad to deal with in comparison.
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
What do you think medieval warfare was like? It was bludgeoning the other guys onto the ground and then continuing to do so until you pieced his armor or smashed him, or you could pull out a dagger and pierce the weaker parts of his armor. It wasn't Rob Roy.
Saw some of this live at one point, really bothered me that some of them would cheese by holding onto the rail for dear life and had to get like three guys to go full ham till he let go.
I wonder how many of them get injured?
That happens pretty frequently, apparently. Nothing super serious, but guys occasionally end up with fractures and stuff. Seeing a team of medieval knights with US flags and decorations never ceases to amuse me.

Also, the only rules for elimination is "trip over the other guy" so how you fight makes legit no difference. Groups like these are anyways using different armour and materials from history, one thing for example the titanium brigandines which are ultra-light and ultra-protective. If anyone here wants to see the closest representation of armoured fighting we have right now, look up harnischfechten. It's without the appeal of big scale battles, but at least it follows the actual historical manuals on how to fight in armour.
So basically a real life Dark Souls fight club. :v:
Now I want to see someone chug a flask of Sunny D mid fight and get dog piled.
in case anyone is interested, this is Battle of the Nations

Formation tactics are a thing and they matter.
Don't forget this masterpiece:
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
realistically that was the only way to counter armour. grapple them to the ground, pull out your knife and stab into the gaps until they died actual sword fighting was reserved for light armoured infantry. heavy armoured vs heavy armoured mostly used half swording and murderstrokes because blunt was just that much more effective
Mind you, gaps was the eye slit in their helmet, or by lifting the visor if they had one. Also mind you, western European laws of chivalry dictated that surrendering was honorable and encouraged doing it on both sides so heavily armored knights duking it out in a death match until one shoved a dirk into the others face rarely happened. And fun fact of the day, it was also seen as incredibly dishonorable for peasantry to kill knights. Including on the battlefield. You could literally be executed for doing your job and killing a knight who was trying to ride you down. that's why Agincourt was such a shock with the longbow, the British commoners (longbowmen) slaughtered the French knights, but since it was at long range, they were anonymous. It leveled the playing field not only over armor but between commoner and noble and that fucked with a lot of heads and is one of the big things that killed chivalry as a concept in warfare.

[editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] And almost no knight fell to the arrows themselves. The archers rather successfully stopped the charge, which lead to tired knights fighting fresh yeomen.
looks fun if somewhat disorienting.
that wannabe waldo team (green/white/red) sucks at fighting, i wouldn't want to be on their team.
I sure wouldn't want to be the idiots hugging the railing outside of this shit... Given the nature, I hope they're at least blunting their instruments, but I physically cringed every time someone would walk by with huge and open eye-holes. Only takes one good fuckup in that mosh-pit...

Only takes one good fuckup in that mosh-pit...
swords, believe it or not, were not that great at knight warfare. The real heavy hitters were blunt weapons that could cause enough force in one area to break and damage bones/organs at the impact. Force travels through plate extremely easy, its the reason why warhammers were great at dealing with armored opponents: the sword was only real great at unarmored, or lightly armored opponets. Its the same reason why you see extremely large two handed swords in european combat to have a ton of force, and slashing weapons in eastern/middle eastern countries.
Honestly looks really fun reminds me of this old Russian vid
Those eye holes would be too risky for me. I can see something sharp poking in.
