Microsoft can't win. They were villains for always-on features (DRM? Whatever you want to call it) and they're villains now for switching the focus to something consumers wanted. But hey, it gets Mr. Sterling some views, doesn't it?

Alot of consumers obviously don't want what Microsoft is pushing.

And they didn't want what they had before. What I see now is a more gaming-focused platform with some sick media features on the side (Xbox 360 was the same thing). I understand it's fun to beat up on the platform that had to play catch-up, but are we really going to keep calling Microsoft dishonest? I've yet to see anyone actually come up with a realistic solution to the problem MS had, just a lot of call outs of the obvious.

it's because they lied about all of it.
it wasn't we chose to have always online drm to fuck over gamestop, ebay, and amazon, it was we have to have always online drm the One won't work without it

it wasn't we chose to ship the connect with all Ones to make it a more viable peripheral, it was the kinect is required
[editline]21st July 2014[/editline]
especially that first one. they stated several times, as fact, that it was designed from the ground up with always online and would require massive reworking to bring it offline
much like sim city

It's more the spin that everything has attached to it. A simple "We fucked up" would have gone a long ways. Instead, it's all "empowering the consumer," and other ridiculous statements. Almost everything about the console was an outright fabrication, and they won't even acknowledge that.
The console nearly flopped, and half the stuff is knee jerk panic reactions trying to push out sales. Everything reeks of marketing gibberish. What else are they going to try and nickel and dime people over? How long before their god awful online service gets even more adds on it? Why should anyone trust them with anything? They've only done stuff reactively because they faced the prospect of financially flopping this entire generation if they didn't do those things.
So, what I'm getting from this video is that after Don Matrick got kicked out, all of the Xbox's biggest problems and criticisms have slowly been addressed and taken care of, pushing the Xbox One towards what everybody wanted it to be.

Pretty much, but also that they are spinning their "fixing" of stuff as giving more choice for the consumer which directly implies they restricted choice before.
"It will never work without this function" ... "We now are giving people the choice of not using this function." That kind of deal.

Right. Don Matrick was a shit bag. Phil Spencer is making the platform great. Spencer has already said in various interviews and statements that the Xbox One was in a bad place, and he's doing every possible thing to improve the system. (And he has.)
And to Zephyrs, would you really expect Microsoft to just roll with policies that would lose them tons of sales?
I want an Xbox One, without the Kinect, and only for The Masterchef Collection, but, not sure if I want to pay for live, so most likely I won't even get it unless more games I want come out for it, and aren't coming to PC at some point.

On one hand, it doesn't surprise me that one of the few truly Xbox One-only killer apps is Halo, but on the other hand it does surprise me that it's a collection of the main Halo games and more; which sorta invalidates any future Halo games on the system at that point unless later games somehow implausibly get better. The Playstation 4 is having a problem with non-multiplat exclusives that really sell the system as well, but it's still just ridiculous that one of the few reasons anyone would consider a $400 system ($500 with Kinect) is for a collection of pre-existing games, and the only reason I don't consider it stupid is because they're mostly damn good games.

you really think that way?
im pretty sure people are still despising EA for making simcity always-online and stating it's impossible to make it work offline,
then making it work offline.
do you not understand that consumers have memory? if a company does something to fuck you over and you ask them to fix it and they go "NO." and you ask and ask and ask and they go "ok but we're still right", i wouldn't expect anyone to think the company is still trusting or in the very least, consumer motivated. Like sony seems to be right now.
money motivation and consumer motivation can sometimes mean the same thing, but in this case it doesn't

I really just want it since 60fps Halo 2 with MP again, PC Halo 2 died before it even released, and MS shutdown original Xbox Live in 2010.
if microsoft gave half a shit about consumers, the xbox one wouldn't have ever been the fucking disaster it once was
When MS unveiled the Xbox One, it showed us all just how greedy and controlling they are and want to be. They reversed on all of it when they saw they were going to sell 1 Xbox per 16 PS4's. It's not a company you should trust
I was waiting for Jim to flip over the hitler tie and use it as a toothbrush moustache. Disappointed.

Absolutely. I saw the shift in management and I see the new management doing everything they can to make things right.
