IIRC, Doom GBA was the first time I ever beat Doom 1 Episode 1. On a road trip to Toronto. [editline]17th September 2017[/editline] Why is my flag American
That GBA port was impressive, didn't even know it could handle those kind of games
That GBA port was impressive, didn't even know it could handle those kind of games
Yeah I didn't know that either but the GBA can handle 3D surprisingly well; just look at Super Monkey Ball Jr., for instance:
There's even better looking games than that, it's quite surprising what it was capable of
Like hell, they even tried porting Resident Evil 2 to the GBA and the prototype actually looks decent. It was a scrappy little handheld.
did they skip that scene in gun shop with that one survive ?
It's just a tech demo, so it's not a feature complete scene, perhaps it would have been in the actual game if they actually pulled it off, who knows.
It's just a tech demo, so it's not a feature complete scene, perhaps it would have been in the actual game if they actually pulled it off, who knows.
They would have probably replaced the voice acting with text though, maybe even turn all the cutscenes into picture shows with text. Highly doubt they could fit all the cutscenes with voice acting on a GBA cart, especially if they wanted to include both the Leon and Claire campaign.

Never knew that Doom 64 was it's own thing and not a port.
Never knew that Doom 64 was it's own thing and not a port.
yea it's own SP campaign it's not bad either but it's action and more horror
Never knew that Doom 64 was it's own thing and not a port.
Doom 64 is kind of the true Doom 3 before Doom 3. It has an updated engine, totally new graphics, new campaign, new weapons, and a major focus on horror vibes with the creepier PSX Sounds and a similar ambient soundtrack. Project time constraints and the limited space of the N64 Cartridge means they had to scrap some monsters, ideas, and multiplayer.
If you can, play the port someone made for it for PC. Sgt. Mark did a Brutal version of it, but its dialed back quite a bit compared to regular BD so its not tone annihilating.
Or preferably play it without BD.
I didn't have regular access to a PC in the 90's. As such the SNES version blew my mind back then. Like 2 years later I got to play it on PC, which made some of the technical limitations more obvious. Granted I did think it was weird that monsters were always facing forward/you before playing on PC. Also, I agree that Doom64 is something that anyone who considers themselves a Doom Fan should experience.
That GBA port was impressive, didn't even know it could handle those kind of games
The only GBA port I really remember was Tony Hawk, and it was... not great looking. The Isometric ones looked okay. [t]http://img2.game-oldies.com/sites/default/files/snaps/nintendo-game-boy-advance/tony-hawk-s-underground-usa-europe.png[/t] The true 3D ones, not so much [t]http://coolrom.com/screenshots/gba/Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (2).jpg[/t] The pop-in was also absurd. Things in front of you didn't exist until just before you hit them.
Even though i've spent most of the time playing PC version of Doom. I will always consider the PS version surperior, it feels very weird shooting at the zombies in the former version as they sound like camels in Age of Empires 2. I keep playing Doom and other mods with the PS1 sound effects on.
