It probably did, rally cars break and need to be serviced so often. However they are built to take the punishment they receive and still soldier on.

most of the time in between rally stages is spent maintaining the car, but obviously they don't have the time to fix everything which is why you see rally cars getting progressively dirtier and banged up as the race goes on

They're built to be ridiculously tough.
There's rules on how many spare parts you can use and what you can replace between stages to stop people driving recklessly knowing they can just repair anything they want.
